Casa Sol

The hostel is situated in a perfect location in the village center. Situated a 80 meters from the main road, so very quiet. Supermarket, bakery, Best Coffee and the company for booking rafting and other tours are at walking distance. In the morning you can hike opposite of the road to the nature reserve for birdwatching; and there are so many species of birds! In the afternoon you can walk to the river and have a swim or dip in to it to cool off. I booked a private room with private bathroom and the rooms are very big, so you can stay with 4 persons. The hostel has a lovely view, expect Ara's and many multicolored birds in the backyard snacking from the banana's. The owner Maria is so warm and friendly, and there are 2 lovely dogs who want to be friends with you as soon as you arrive. The facilities in the kitchen are very good. Everything is super clean and tidy, value for money is superb!

The house was perfect for our needs. It's a split level with a master bedroom on the upper floor, kitchen and dining on the middle level, and another bedroom and bath on the lower level. There is SO much to see and do in the area. And the host, Maria, is a wonderful and accommodating person. I'd highly recommend!!

The kitchen is fine (basic) but could use a bit more cookware and perhaps some basic spices / condiments.

Casa Sol is a charming 2 bedroom self contained unit adjacent to the owner Maria, who was an excellent host. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and a balcony/chairs outside the main bedroom upstairs. It is about 500 mtr off the road. Casa Sol is in Chilamate, a small settlement about an hour's walk from Puerto Viejo de Sarapaqui centre. There are buses about once an hour into/back from town. There is a small supermarket about 5 mins walk away and a couple of restaurant/bars. Sitting on the balcony morning and evening I could hear much bird song, croaking frogs and even monkey calls in the distance. I had a very happy 3 night stay, wandering the local back roads including one excellent section through rainforest. Saw 2 kinds of toucan, spider monkeys, caiman and many butterflies including a Morpho.

GREAT Location near the tropical forest preserves and the Sarapiqui River, right near the Best Chocolate Farm, where we also took a night hike, and just down the road from Aventuras del Sarapiqui (excellent whitewater rafting). It's a private house off the main road and I was worried about dogs barking as mentioned in some other reviews, but it was not a problem at all. It's a split level with two separate sleeping spaces, king bed in upstairs room and queen bed in the downstairs room, each having their own bathroom with showers. The main kitchen/dining area was great for preparing easy meals: rice and beans for dinners and fried egg sandwiches for breakfast. And best of all is our host, Maria who has been SO accommodating and friendly. We just message each other through WhatsApp (I use Google Translate to convert from her Spanish to my English). It's not a luxury hotel but instead a very artistically decorated two bedroom apartment and I highly recommend.

Kitchen supplies are good but not great. There is only a one burner electric stove and so making rice and beans needs to be done consecutively instead of concurrently which takes longer to prepare a meal. There's only salt, but would be helpful to supply other basic spices like pepper and cumin and chili powder, etc.

The Bed was huuuuge and really comfortable. The space was super cute! Best place I have stayed for the price! Overall really awesome space at a great price. Def would stay again

There were limited cooking utensils. Very bare bones, but enough to get by. Some neighborhood dogs did bark loudly one night but that's anywhere right?

Beautiful house, great facilities, excellent location, incredibly kind and welcoming host. María went above and beyond to make sure I had a comfortable stay, and the property itself is gorgeous. It is spacious and I slept very well each night, plus there is air conditioning and facilities for cooking food, and washing clothes. Casa Sol is also between Puerto Viejo and La Virgen, within close walking distance of the bus stops - making it very well located if you wish to travel to these towns. Would absolutely recommend and I wish I could have stayed longer!
