Calm - 1BR - 1BA - Apartment - Central Ambleside

Location excellent. Looks good, contemporary, alludes to hi tech.

Entrance at the car parking area shabby, door didn’t lock properly, two flights of steep stairs. Switched TV on to find “not programmed “ it seemed no terrestrial tv. Could have been a little more homely in its feel. All grey with vertical blinds made it a bit office like rather than cosy sitting room.

Absolutely nothing

We felt decieved in that the accomodation was clearly not where shown on the Booking.com app and when did find felt that was deliberate decpetion due to the poor state of the building at the rear. Couldnt get into the key safe. No lights in vicinity. Rain pooring down side of building nearly drowned my phone while using the torch facility because no lighting. Also very cold standing outside ()ice+snow) After repeated attempts used the Booking.com messaging facility to highlight the problem. A mainentance guy the turned up and broke into the key safe -he was helpful. When we highlighted the problems and he identified that the lights outside were broken. We then pushed against the rear door to get into the back of the property which was not secure despite the signage saying the door "to be kept closed at all times" Then made our way to the flat with the maintenance guy (who was helpful) -my wife then queried the damage that could be seen around the flats door lock -the maintenance guy then exlained that he'd had to break into the flat the previous day because the keys had been left inside the flat by the previous occupants and there was no spare set of keys (??!!!). Because of the time we decided to eat in. Turned on the TV. Couldnt get BBC1 or any terrestrial TV channel. When selected the likes of Netflix etcas only apps available. It was asking for passwords !! Who brings passwords on holiday ??? Then went to open bottle of wine and no bottle opener. Need I go on !!

Location was good, right in the centre of the village of Ambleside. We liked the convenience of being able to cook, reducing our reliance on restaurants.. The apartment was tidy and clean on our arrival. It hosts a range of facilities, including iron and hair dryer.

Despite the hoped-for convenience of being able to cook, the kitchen was not well equipped: damaged non-stick pans with peeling coating, no scissors, no cooking spoon, tongs, etc. There was an eclectic mix of glasses without pairs...no good for a couple. One plate was cracked and the plastic chopping board was long overdue to be replaced. Overall, the kitchen utensils were not sufficient to cook a full meal from scratch and some of the pots were dirty.. In addition, there was a lack of cupboard space with nowhere to unpack food that we had brought. The bed was very uncomfortable as the mattress was very poor quality. Despite a sign on the entry door at the back of the property instructing that it should be kept closed for security purposes, we arrived to find the door wedged open. On trying to close and lock the door it became apparent that the lock was broken. The door to our apartment also showed signs of having been forced open at some point with the door and the frame being cracked. Entry to the property from either the front or back door was quite dingy, with poor quality carpet tiles on the floor and the walls marked/scuffed. The front entrance opened directly onto the main street, which was very convenient; however, the back entrance was accessed via a courtyard servicing a number of other poorly maintained properties (broken windows, overgrown with weeds, damaged roof tiles, etc.); arriving in the courtyard (as instructed) was not a good first impression of the property. A private parking space was allocated, but was very narrow and overgrown with brambles. We were frequently scratched when getting in and out of the car. On the third night of our stay, somebody parked in our allocated space. Despite contacting the agency for advice and being asked to email a photo of the vehicle, we were not given permission to park in one of the other bays, despite it being apparent that the respective apartments had been vacated that morning.

The apartment was very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a wonderful stay. Directions and instructions given prior to the stay were excellent and we managed to find the place with no problems. Would definitely stay again.

Just to make people aware that the allocated parking spot is very narrow, it would be a tight squeeze for a large family car. The parking area would be a little wider if the hedges were trimmed back.

Great location and very well equipped

The shared rear entrance dies not give the same impression as the apartment does.

The actual apartment itself is very nice, comfortable and well presented.

The rear approach and entrance are awful and really gave a poor impression. The front door lock was problematic and both the entrance ways and stairs were poorly decorated and messy.

Location was fantastic and the apartment is very well equipped with all we needed for our stay. Very central, yet also a peaceful, calm haven.
