Guests need to take the door key with them at all times as the entrance door to the building is locked at 10.30pm and when the property is empty. The location is superb - bang on in the middle of the high street, convenient to all the town has to offer. The apartment itself is lovely, comfortable, and well-appointed. The hosts, Penny and Paul (and Bob the dog), were warm and welcoming from the start, and truly cared that we enjoyed our stay. The skies opened while we were there, and the pouring rain in the street outside only served to emphasize the coziness of the apartment as we took a well-deserved rest day from our Coast to Coast Walk. Absolutely recommended for a short break or an extended stay in Kirkby Stephen, which itself serves as a marvelous base for exploring the surrounding region.

Amazingly quirky, unique period apartment set in the most beautiful quaint little town. Wonderful hosts who went above and beyond freshly made bread, butter, jam, milk, fresh coffee and eggs! Absolutely loved our stay from start to finish one to remember and definitely return to!

Great welcome package of bread, flapjacks, milk, eggs, butter & jam. Really great size - loads of seats and so much to look at in terms of antiques. A truly unique place. Great hosts throughout the stay. Really enjoyed our stay, great location too.

Could have had more toilet roll provided. Towels were quite small. Beds were a bit soft for both of us, but that’s just personal preference.

Our two night stay at Penny & Paul's 'Apartment of Antiquity' was the highlight of our trip to Northern England or shall I say, all of the UK. Their hospitality outshines anywhere else we've ever stayed. The apartment has every amenity one could need (plus some you hadn't realized was needed). We were welcomed with fresh homemade bread, eggs, and milk so that we didn't immediately have to go to the store. The apartment is quiet. The beds were comfortable. Spacious bathroom. Cozy living room. The apartment was spotless with lots of antiques to keep your eyes busy. Strong wifi connection for those who care. Fantastic location in the heart of Kirkby Stephen. Just stay there - you won't regret it!

I wish we could rate the 'Apartment of Antiquity' higher than a 10. All the effort that the hosts, Penny and Paul, put into this unit deserves a higher score.
