Hidden gem apartment in picturesque village close to Durham

The property is well equipped, spacious and quiet. The host Mike was available whenever needed and we liked the separate sleeping quarters arrangement, it suited us well.

Nice and out of the way

It was not mentioned that the sleeping and living accommodation were in two different buildings. This should be mentioned as you have to cross a courtyard to get to either

Separate accomodation for bedrooms and living room accessed by outside courtyard covered in snow and access difficult due to snow Cold living room Fridge not cleaned as someone else's food still in box in fridge Asked for extra money when we got there as had dog although booking had been done with dog

Property not as advertised. i.e. 2 bedrooms apartment. The 2 bedrooms, shower & WC are in one property and the lounge and kitchen in another. There is no common sheltered passageway linking the 2 properties and access to both sections is via a courtyard open to the elements. E.g If you are in the lounge and wish to visit the bedrooms, shower or WC you have to go out into the open air, cross an open courtyard and vice versa. The property is not suitable for those with mobility issues even though the owner was informed that I had a blue badge and required close parking. We did not accept the property and returned home same day. N.B. The owner Mike was very understanding and apologetic and agreed to contact Booking.Com to cancel the booking.

Quiet Close to wedding We had our own space

Just be aware that this is not an apartment to yourself. Not even sure it can be classified as an apartment. The kitchen is in the owners main house and the courtyard is not private as the owner has access. If you have pets that need to be kept safe in an enclosed area then this is not for you. If you also need to change dates or would like any adjustments to your booking then this not the for you. We tried to move the dates but the owner wanted to charge us again for an entire new booking even though the dates were available. We decided not to stay here in the end. No refund or date change but we found something that suited us better in the end. Not something we would recommend or stay at in the future.

This lovely little property was great for us and our needs, very clean and homely. The area was beautiful, quiet and we had a lovely relaxing time getting away from the city for two nights.

Lovely quiet location. Extremely comfortable beds. Host very accommodating. It may seem a small thing, but a hairdryer would have been useful as the property we stayed in prior to this one provided one, so we did not take ours. Apart from this no problems and very relaxing.
