OUTRIGGER Maldives Maafushivaru Resort

Lovely staff, stunning accommodation, good food, great excursions. We went on snorkelling trips to look for Whale Sharks, turtles and Manta Rays and saw them all super close to us. Prices also weren’t quite as punitive as we’ve seen in the Maldives before (eg champagne for USD50, cocktails for USD12).

On top of being one of the most beautiful places on earth, the resort was very clean, and nice but the best part was the staff friendliness, professionalism, and the service quality. Over the years, we have stayed in many 5-star resorts all over the world, I can easily claim that this resort with its quality of service tops it all. We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes, our host Moosa had foreseen a complimentary villa for us to rest while our villas were being prepared, he made our stay perfect, gave us tips for exploring the island and the reef, made our bookings at the resort, as well as prepare the necessary documents for us to go back home smoothly. He was there every morning and evening to see if we needed anything or just to say hello and have a chat. The manager of the hotel, Guillaume, also greeted us daily and gave us recommendations for activities on the island. Under the management of the head of housekeeping Adam, the staff responsible for our villas Samir and Hadhee were very thorough and quick with the room preparations, they prepared special decorations on the day of arrival and the night before departure. The restaurant and bar staff were also very professional and friendly, greeting us with our names, with special attention to detail. Azuhar showed us how to make decorative fish using leaves and brought to us every morning a plate of mangosteen fruits which we did not know before. These are just a few examples of how Outrigger staff went out of their way to make our time enjoyable, we would like to thank to all of them for this unforgettable week. We will definitely go back in the coming years.

The Staff were extremely friendly and kind, taking special actions (birthday message on our bed, champagne in the evening) to make it a very special holiday. Really appreciated the staff attempting to use our names when they greeted us, this was a very nice touch. Aliya was brilliant and very helpful.

The timbers on the boardwalk to our water villa were obviously aged and in need of repair, which meant that we needed to wear shoes to/from our vila. It appears that you are replacing the worst of the timbers progressively, however would suggest that this may need some accelerated actions. Also, we noted that a number of the water villa were in need of external repainting which does tend to make the units look a bit tired. After speaking with the Manager, we understand that there is work underway to stimulate new coral growth in the lagoon area. This is a positive step as the snorkelling experience around your resort was not as enjoyable as the experience which we had at another nearby (Vilamindhoo) report, with factors such as stronger wave action/less impressive coral being a natural factor which Outrigger needs to overcome.
