Benidaruma - Sakuramochi

Sehr hochwertig/komfortabel ausgestatteter Ryokan. Inhaber anfangs noch sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend - hatte noch extra Trinkwasser und Chips zur Begrüßung geholt.

Etwa eine Stunde nach Einchecken/Bezahlung und Beziehen des Zimmers Anruf auf dem Handy, bzw. dann auch persönlich die Aussage, die Reservierung sei gar nicht für mich gewesen, sondern für die drei jungen Leute, die zwischenzeitlich aufgetaucht sind (Buchungsbestätigung von Booking.com sagt aber was anderes). Ergo: Ich solle das Zimmer bitte räumen, Ersatz könne er mir auch nicht anbieten, aktiv geholfen, eine Bleibe für die Nacht zu finden, hat er mir auch nicht. Geld zurückgebucht, ja, und zwar in höflichem Ton, aber faktisch Rausschmiss abends um 19:45 Uhr mit 'Sieh zu, wo du bleibst'. Vermutlich Doppelbuchung/-Belegung, aber einen nach Beziehen des Zimmers wieder hinaus zu komplementieren, und außer Hinhalten des Stadtplans mit anderen Hotels nicht wirklich Hilfe anzubieten, ist einfach nur räudig/schäbig.

The owner and his son are the sweetest people.. very welcoming and accomodating. They go the extra mile for their guests. We LOVED our cozy room (tatami style) and the view we had over the cute trains that pass by. For us it was magical everytime we re-entered the room. The japanese style bathroom with tub was enjoyable too. And if you enjoy Ghibli movies, this is the place for you!

This place was very cute and pretty. The owner and his son are extremely nice and very accommodating hosts. They allowed me to check in early so I could drop my bags and helped me carry it upstairs to my room. I had flowers with me and they lent me a beautiful vas. They also let me leave my bag after checking out since my itinerary was to explore near their place before moving on. They were very attentive. The son told me they built their place themselves! The owner also made me breakfast in the morning and lent me an umbrella for walking around.

I managed ok because I’m a pretty good sleeper and had earplugs, but my room was right next to the train tracks/local station. This meant getting around was very easy (bus stop right next to there too), but it was a bit noisy and did rattle the room a bit. I did manage to adjust mostly and sleep anyway.

Extremely good hospitality from the host!!! really nice person. Very clean place.The room was ok but we could hear people walking and doing stuff because the walls were very thin.

The family that own and run the property are friendly, helpful and kind. Big selection of items to choose from for breakfast.

The location is very far from the centre but good if you want to be in the suburbs. It is right on the railway line if you sensitive to noise. There is only one bathroom for all the guests. The room was small for two people.

Everything was clean. Lots of choices for you to make your own breakfast with a full kitchen to cook or for things to grab and go.

Maybe just not for us. I read the reviews and felt they suggested more of a homely stay and interactions with the owner as a cultural experience this was not the case. It is like a hostel. We came in late at night and were told to take city bus 5 from kyoto station. It would be helpful to have directions as it took as ages to find at A1 bus wait area. Then there are huge signs in the bus that you are not supposed to travel on buses with luggage. We had no choice as we were late at night with a kid and already wasted an hour trying to find the bus station, as an international traveller this would be handy to know from the hosts as they had recommended we get city bus 5. Feel like our stay here was not off to a good start and when we finally arrived, then had to navigate an unwanted conversation around a financial proposal from hosts. We had already paid in advance through booking.com and did not need this pressure to try and manipulate the booking.com system. We were put off with kerosene heating used in contained space (not great for anyone but particularly anyone with respiratory issues). Beds were ok but very thin traditional style. Whilst we stayed there were at least 9 visitors and one shower. Booking shower system was not explained and bookings were in hour slots which does not make sense to me. We had no showers. The other thing we didn’t like was that the two toilets were straight across from the reception desk that the owner seemed to be at for 16 hours of the day, observing and hearing every bit of toilet comings and goings. 😁

This place is awesome! I can see why it is so highly rated. The host is super friendly, the space is cozy and extremely clean. The location was very convenient as I was attending an event in Kyoto Convention Centre. It is an easy walk to get there and I had the chance to see deer on my way there. The wifi works well, the kitchen is well equipped although I didn't have the chance to use it in this trip. All great! I would definitively come back.

They treated us like family in every way, from collecting our dinner to giving us advise where to attend. I would recommend them to anyone.
