MACHIYADO 京都南禅寺道

Situated in a fantastic neighbourhood of Kyoto, I enjoyed walking to Nanzenji and other nearby parks early morning before the crowds. The house had everything I needed and will be back!

Amazing property to stay like a local!

Very thoughtfully appointed, clean and easy to access, in a great location. Great soaking tub and zen garden and we were glad to have a small table and chairs in the kitchen. Host was very quick to answer my questions.

Struggled to get the heating right. It felt like it was either on, or off with no easy to understand temperature control

Comfortable and easy to traverse around the town from the location

Wish the bath wasn’t outside in the garden

The stay at the house was exceptional. Beautiful property in a great location. You feel at home instantly. The host was very helpful and communicative as well. Check-in and all other things surrounding our arrival went smoothly. Entry with the code lock was also easy. It's such a cozy property with all kinds of amenities provided and a fully equipped kitchen. The beds/futon mattresses were also really comfortable, as were the pillows. Even though it was still winter, we were never really cold in the house. Every room was equipped with Air-Condition and both living room and bedroom also had a small electronic heater provided. The stairs are a bit steep, but there is a sturdy railing to hold on to. Light sleepers beware that there are no curtains in front of the windows because it's a old townhouse. But I had my best sleep there in a long time regardless. We really enjoyed our time and hope to come back.

It could use some more slippers, like those disposable ones, and not enough mirrors for many people staying but I understand the property is only so big.. also the living room table could be changed to a kotatsu for colder months
