Gertrudes Residence stay in Light-Filled Studio apartment in Central Riga

The apartment was decent

The sound the toilet was making after each flush. And the alarm box flashing throughout the night stopped me from falling asleep from time to time

I like the location as Riga city center is very walkable and I like the Gertrudes iela-area very much. The studio is a really quiet place, you don't hear the neighbors but just sometimes some noisy lorry traffic from the outside, anyway it's not a problem if you enjoy quiet and peace. The bed was comfortable. Many towels provided which I appreciate and also many extra toilet rolls stored. Clean refrigerator. Spacious wardrobes and yes, very light-filled room as promised. Nice neighbours greeting you in the stairwell. The stairwell has seen better days but its ok, imo. 3 different bus stops some 2-3 minutes walk, two taking you to and from e.g Riga central station, one taking you further up into the city

The accommodation was a bummer, a real disappointment. The studio was icecold when I arrived at 7 pm in the evening, it was a cold winter day in January. I felt so unwelcoming so I had to quickly deside should I stay or look for something else. It was unnecessary stressing. I found an extra radiator, which I swiched on max and used my big woollen neck piece as an extra blanket over the blanket and the bedspread. Thankfully, the room was warmed up when I woke up in the morning. Also, the floor was warmer and not ice cold anymore, so I decided to stay. Anyway, icecold air was seeping from the windows, so it was a must to keep the blinds down. The next letdown was the shower, hardly no pressure, which was complicated when washing the hair. Following by next disappointment which was a small bucket full of water in the bathroom which I had take care of as the water was running over from some kind of straw pipe so I had to empty it three times during my stay, there was nothing about it when signing the agreement so it took its toll on my mood. Another stressful experience was a non-stop blinking red little light, in the dark when trying to sleep it was really disturbing so I had to cover my eyes. Next, one chair felt unsafe to sit on, I'm slim and small size so someone heavier than me could probably break it. Last but not least, an extra fee of 7 euro was announced after checking in that it must be paid before checking out, the tone felt demanding and as a very unpleasant experience. I've been to many similar accommodations and never seen anything like that before. In addition the account and the recipient name didn't match according to the bank's own notification system but the transaction went through anyway. It felt shady but I use only empty back up card and empty back up account which I topped up with the 7 euro and payed, not using my ordinary account or card in cases like this.
