Cosy Alfama

A small apartment in the heart of the Alfama district. Cozy and welcoming, it felt like home from the moment I arrived.

The front door lock is a recurring problem, and I am surprised it has not been fixed yet. There is no air conditioning in the apartment apart from the bedroom. I stayed during the St. António festivities, which is absolutely not the best time to use this accommodation. The windows could not be opened because of the strong smell of grilled sardines, not to mention the party noise that continued until 3:00 a.m. every night. Also, on the second day of my stay, the gas for the water heater ran out, leaving me without hot water for a short period of time.

Great location in Alfama, you do however need to be fully mobile and not have too much luggage as Alfama has windy cobblestones and is a bit of a maze so even with very clear directions from Marta it was a little tricky finding it. It is up 3 flights of stairs. The property is a great place to stay if you don’t need luxury. It is a whole well equipped apartment, quirky and has clearly been someone’s home previously. We really liked it. Great to have somewhere to sit, cook, eat when we didn’t want to go out. Easy access to transport system and Castle and Cathedral within easy walking distance. The view from the window of a local church lovely and we had swifts dancing morning and evening. The whole area was preparing for a festival which unfortunately we missed as we had to leave. When we had an issue with the gas/hot water in the bathroom it was quickly resolved. Marta is very responsive by message and helpful.

The key access to the front door a bit tricky and you have to wiggle it around which was a bit scary at times. We did always get in.

We had some problems with the tv to start with, and Marta came back to us straight away working out how to fix the problem. She then kept in touch the rest of our stay to make sure everything was working OK. The apartment wasn't just a bland apartment, it was a home full of everything you could need, plenty of kitchen ware, washing machine, iron etc

One very tiny problem for us was the size of the bed, we're used to a queen or king size, but the bed was a double. For others this may be no problem at all

Access tricky, lack of directions meant phone calls to find. Street door lock a challenge. But still worth it as so good when you get there

Very clean large apartment with excellent kitchen facilities right in the heart of Alfama. Lots of restaurants near by and Uber taxies are very cheap

The hot water was very erratic and the front door lock would need to be adjusted.

An excellent location and a helpful and friendly host.

La cocina estaba bastante sucia de grasa, se nota que era una casa donde vivió gente. Creo que le vendría bien un lavado de cara.
