Cosy Modern Oxford Apartment

Be careful! The shower is broken. The heating is broken. I was without a shower for a few days and freezing in the apartment. I was also locked outside due to a broken lock. Poor maintenance.

Location was very good, close to Summertown Shops and to bus stops on Woodstock Road where there are regular busses to the city center. (Or to Blenheim Palace in the other direction.) Host was nice and very responsive (replaced the microwave immediately when we had a problem with it).

Apartment had some mould and a weird smell: Mould/mildew around all windows, a larger patch on the bottom left of the large window in the living room, and on the blinds in 2 out of 3 bedrooms (we left the blinds up for that reason). My husband, who is allergic to mould, had a bad time. Looking back, we should have abandoned the place and looked for something else, also for the health of our kids, but it was a stressful work trip for me and with our 1 year old also being ill for some of the time we simply did not have the energy. After we came home, I noticed that everything that had been inside the apartment still smelled like it! Some clothes had to be washed twice to remove the smell. I vacuumed our suitcases and aired them out for several days until the smell was gone. I actually replaced the mattress on our travel cot due to health concerns. We also randomly found two pieces of broken glass, one underneath the washing machine and one under the sofa, so the sofa is probably rarely moved to clean underneath. (Which is also a safety concern with kids.) Regarding safety: There was some weird nightlight type thing in one of the plug sockets that fell apart when my toddler pulled it out. This resulted in just two electrical contacts sticking out of the plug socket! (See photos.) If the socket hadn't been switched off, he could have electrocuted himself. Probably this nightlight thing (which had no CE or electrical safety markings) was left by some other traveler, but the host should check what's left in the apartment, because this thing was extremely dangerous (I threw it out of course). Edit: Owner is trying to insinuate we caused the mould. It was there on day 1, we did not dry clothes on radiators or cook without extractor. I made no contact because this problem does not have a quick fix. There was a bottle of bleach (no lid, in reach of the toddler) in the bottom kitchen cabinet, suggesting they do do cursory mould removal between guests.

The property is extremely well situated for visiting Oxford. The bus stop is very close. There is also a park and ride nearby if you need to leave a car there. We were very impressed with the shower which was extremely powerful. The kitchen is well equipped to do your own cooking. The dishwasher was great with tablets supplied.

We struggled a bit with gaining access to the property, the lock may need some attention.

Appartment was very comfortable and very well equipped. All appliances were handy and in good condition. Full sets of dishes and cooking equipment. Excellent Wi-Fi.

Parking is a bit of an issue. Garage is very narrow and absolutly not relevant for modern cars.

Everything about this booking was amazing. The host (Danny) was so responsive to any questions I had. Danny responds only minutes after you send a message. Super amazing location and such a cosy flat. I will definitely aim to stay there again whenever I am in Oxford.
