The Hendrik Square Residence

The apartment is in an old town building, absolutely beautiful in its construction, very nicely renovated and in a very central location. Once the receptionist told us where to go, it was no problem at all. We liked that it is fully equipped. This is an amazing apartment! A couple of things need a bit more attention to detail to improve, but we would definitely come back. Just a note to hopefully help others: at first it was a bit confusing to find the reception desk so do read the instructions very carefully and make sure you check the map, the reception desk is in a big street away from the old town and in a not so clear place. But the instructions will eventually take you there.

One thing we didn't like is that although the apartment was mostly well cleaned, the staircase leading up to the apartment was dirty and dusty. Not nice. / There was no coffee but we survived because we only stayed one night.

The location is superb and the outlook over the square is special.

Hmmm. It would have been nice to know we had to carry two 25kg bags up 60 steps. No plug in the kitchen sink or washing brush but we were asked to handwash dishes. No chopping board for preparing food in a hygienic way. No spray for cleaning kitchen surfaces - just window spray. Bed linen included no sheet, just a doona for managing 19 degree Celsius nights, Linen provided was very poor quality and the two threadbare towels without any spare had no place in rented accommodation. Broom (covered in someone's hair) was provided but no dustpan for picking up the piles of dust and dirt. Floor cleaner provided but this wasn't for floorboards and there was no mop to use anyway. The drain blocked in the bathroom causing a horrible stench. Ohh, and there were two fans provided but one of them was broken. BYO wine glass.

There was a slight issue with the apartment.

The apartment itself is beautiful. The view of the Cathedral right outside the windows was amazing. Great location - close to everything, lots of cafes and restaurants close by of varying price ranges. The bedroom was quiet even when there was activity in the square in front.

In an ideal world, there would be a coffee maker with coffee. There are 3 flights of spiral stairs which might be a problem for some people, but it was okay for me. In 2 weeks of stays in the Netherlands and Belgium, I’d say this is typical of accommodations in historic centres.

En Suite bathroom was accessible through the bedroom making it unsuitable for additional guests staying in the property. Sofa beds were available in the lounge but only really suitable for a couple.

The bathroom was very dirty

The apartment is located in a lovely, ancient part of the city. It overlooks a lovely square with classical buskers (violin and clarinet were the ones we watched). Really easy to walk to many places to eat, and very close to the beautiful cathedral and squares. The apartment is ideal for two, but I'm not sure four would be so comfortable? Maybe (sofa beds). It's quite well equipped and the open beams and wooden floors give it a lovely feel. The bar below (Zorro's) looks nice but we didn't actually go. But we weren't bothered by noise or people

The mattress and sofa beds are a little tired, but we had no problem sleeping (two of us). My wife commented that the bathroom could do with a deep clean in the corners, but it wasn't something I noticed with my man-eyes. The wooden floors and open ceiling can make it noisy if you have people in the apartment above (there was a group of ladies above us all with high heels and giggles - we didn't mind but you might!)
