Carvalhal Old Town

Very kind and cheerful host. Convenient location near the center, old town and waterfront. Amazing view of the ocean from the windows and from the balcony on the second floor. Very clean. There is a separate room for washing and drying laundry, which is important for longer stays. The kitchen has all the necessary equipment if you want to cook your own meals. It should be noted that the street for entering the garage by car is quite narrow and steep, so it is better to rent a smaller car or have an experienced driver. All in all, it was a great week. We were in Madeira for the second time and we hope not the last time.

The flat has a really good location and it's very spacious. Our group was made up of 4 people, but it could've easily fit 6. It was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped for preparing a quick breakfast, for example. The host left us an instructions book which was very useful.

The property doesn't have AC but we were thinking that we chose to come at the end of September and it should be fine. Unfortunately, we got a heatwave and it was difficult at night. We needed more bin bags, the host left us only one for a week.

Like many streets in Funchal, the street is very narrow and extremely steep. So if you come by car, you should be comfortable manouevering the car in and out of the garage under these conditions :-)

We stayed here as a group of four friends. It was a great apartment and good value for money. We had plenty of space, it was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed using the kitchen to cook and the washing machine was useful. The WiFi worked well. The garage for parking the car was convenient and meant the car felt safe. The apartment was in a good location a short walk into the old town and to the port where there are many nice restaurants bars and shops and places to swim. We only used the pool once, it is very small but a nice facility to have. We drove all over the island and had a great holiday hiking, canyoning and swimming on many beaches and pools. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend and return.

The apartment lacked some items such as a bottle opener, corkscrew and wine glasses but we purchased these cheaply locally and left them for future guests. The pool and pool area are very small but nice for a dip and to lie in the sun and would be good for children. On booking.com it wasn't clear which apartment we were booking, we thought there was a terrace with a sea view however our apartment was downstairs so this could be worth checking.

The view of the apartment and its location are awesome to enjoy Madeira at its fullest. We could go walking to the center of Funchal in less than 10 min and the apartment is very comfortable to stay several days.

Spacious apartment with awesome view overlooking the ocean and old town of Funchal. The location is quite and close to the main attractions in town and lively areas in the center. By foot, it’s just 10 min walk. It has a garage and a small swimming pool. Which are really nice additional bonuses. The swimming area at the seashore (there are no beaches in Funchal) is just down the hill – ca 5min walk.

Be aware that one has to be physically fit to walk from the town/seashore up to the apartment as the streets have quite some steepness. On the other hand, the house is also easily accessible by taxi.
