"Amarente short stay"

9.0

Great central location overlooking the river and near the São Gonçalo cathedral, peaceful. We loved Amarente, the river beach nearby was lovely for a swim. Casa Heredio was a great recommendation.

Nowhere to hang clothes, not even a hook! FIne for a couple of days.

"The apartment is right in the centre of Amarante, which is beautiful."

Clean apartment in a good location, free parking very close by. All you need for a few days, even though the apartment was a little snug it was well fitted out.

"Excellent value in a smartly furnished apartment in a beautiful location."

10.0

Excellent location with free public parking behind the property with an elevator to street level. There’s a 6 km hiking trail along the river by the property. The decor is very modern and the beds were comfortable. Appreciated the laundry facilities and drying rack. Highly recommend this property and Amarante in general as the town is very beautiful. Joao, our contact, was easy to get in touch with before we arrived. Also appreciated that there was coffee for us to use and oil and vinegar as we did make a few meals over our 4 days.

Very minor item: no hairdryer. I thought of asking Joao if they had one but it wasn’t that important to me.

"Apartment & Amarante....so very good."

10.0

Sat on the terrace of our room with a cup of tea looking across the river at the distant hills we felt so relaxed and could breathe in fresh air after 3 days in Lisbon. The apartment was fantastic, clean and the best shower we have come across in Portugal. Recommend hiring a bike from Amarantrilhos and cycling the Ecopista Tamega route, it's so beautiful.

"Cozy and special, but you need to catch up on sleep afterwards!"

7.0

Amazing location. We stayed during a heavy week of rain, nevertheless the appartment felt cozy and not too small... We had 2 balcony's, but only 1 of them was in a private spot, mainly the one at the river side was very very nice. It's nice to have options though. The balcony mentioned has roofing, so we could sit out there despite the rain. The kitchen had many appliances (handmixer incl.) and once we got the hang of loading the small dishwasher, we also appreciated this with the few tablets provided. The shower was good, there are soaps provided in dispensers, and the toilet is at a good height. It was also quite clean (exception of 1 or 2 dead flies, but this can happen). There is a decent hairdryer provided. I thought the thin rug under the bed was smart to make it more cozy and the decor is minimalistic which I prefer as it makes everything feel cleaner. And the headboard incorporates space to put your medication, glass of water, phone etc. Getting in and out of the appartment with the key lock was very easy. Keep in mind that the appartment is 1 flight of stairs up from the ground floor and the cealing there is too low for a Dutch person (you got to hunch over a bit), but totally fine for someone of average height (+/- 165cm and smaller for Portugese average height). Just keep quiet when you enter, because everyone can hear everything.

I could not get over the fact that there was no coat rack in the hallway! We makeshifted one with the meterbox door and 2 hangers from the tiny wardrobe in the bedroom (coats hung on the outside to dry from the rainy weather...). In the bathroom the automatic mechanical ventilation really annoyed me (I'm sensitive to sound). The ventilation was rather loud and it was on frequently during the day for each time I or my partner entered the bathroom to use the mirror, the hairdryer, the toilet, etc. Then it stays on for a period of time after. There are alternative options for this, like a humidity sensor and/or a switch. I ended up using headphones each time lol and that made it doable for me. The flooring has big gaps for crumbs to fall inbetween and was a bit loud when we walked on it. The kitchen had no washing up liquid (for the pans), no brush, and imo too few amount of glasses, cutlery and plates. The bedroom felt tiny and the pillows were too thin for us. Fortunately there are 2 thin pillows each. We slept poorly in this appartment. You can hear everything in the hallway, unfortunately other guests were coming home late and talking loud. The entire appartment is soundproofed except for the front door which had a gap at the bottom where sound can come through. Also the boiler in the kitchen made a lot of noise at late hours (some low frequency of the sound enters the bedroom on the other side), so we temperarily fixed this by having it heat up during the day rather than at night...). Also, be aware that the river makes a frequency of sounds too, so if you are a light sleeper bring earplugs. But I imagine when it does not rain that it will be better. A tip for the owner: for a sustainable stay, a soapbar rack in the shower to put your own soapbars would be great; We always travel with our own in aluminium trays, and it would be lovely to have a dry place to put them inside the shower!
