It was great

The host was very polite and kind and helpful.

Prior to my arrival I received an email giving me instructions on accessing the apartment, so I was able to enter easily. The host met me there shortly and welcomed us warmly. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the basement apartment and its amenities. It as clean and neat, and furnished very well. Not something I've seen in other rentals. The living room furniture was beautiful, very comfortable, and well maintained. The kitchen area was well equipped with a giant fridge, and large oven and stove top, a toaster oven, a microwave oven, a nice coffeemaker, and an electric kettle. The kitchen cabinets were of good quality and well maintained. The host provided a jar of delicious coffee, coffee filters, and some teabags. The fridge contained 4 cans of Pepsi, and 4 bottles of water, a nice welcoming gesture. Cleaning supplies and garbage bags were also provided so we didn't have to purchase any. The dining table was a good size seating for 4 and comfortable. There were ample wall sockets to charge cell phones and laptops. The bedrooms were large and the beds very comfortable. The bed linen was clean and fresh. The host provided ample towels, toilet paper rolls, roll of kitchen towels, shampoo and body soap. The bathroom was a good size, bright and clean. The host also provided access to the washer and dryer, both worked very efficiently. Sufficient heating was provided, making our sleep comfortable. Parking in the driveway was an added plus. Ample shopping in the vicinity of the house and lots of restaurants around within walking distance. It appeared to be a very safe neighbourhood as we often returned late at night. All-in-all, it was a very pleasant stay, quiet and comfortable. I would definitely book the apartment on my next trip, if it's available, and also recommend it to others.

The only thing I would recommend is for a handheld shower in the tub. This makes cleaning off the soap scum on the walls easy after showering.

Alamgir introduced himself, once we were inside, and the apartment was clean, tidy, and warmed up cosily for us for our arrival. Although we didn't use the TV much, it was nice to see that there were so many channels to choose from. The Wi-Fi was supplied free of charge and was very fast indeed. Alamgir was very accomodating, especially on the 2nd day, even turning up the heating because we were cold from exhaustion and jetlag. Alamgir also replaced a faulty hairdryer the same day, with no fuss or bother. The cooking facilities were ample for our needs and I cooked breakfast most mornings, with no problems at all. Getting around using public transport (TTC, GO, etc) was easy, as the property was at a junction of major routes. There are plenty of shops and food outlets within a 3 minute walk from the property. We found that the facilities in the bathroom were fine, with ample clean towels and toilet roll. Alamgir didn't interfere with our stay in any way, and was in fact really helpful when we had dispose of some articles left by my recently departed sister. All in all, the stay at Alamgir's property really helped us relax during our stay in Toronto, and I would return there anytime. Alamgir was able to let us stay a few hours longer, as we had a late flight out. It wasn't expected from him, but was very much appreciated, as it greatly simplified things for us at the end. Although we cleaned up after ourselves, there were some items that had to be left behind. Alamgir kindly dealt with these for us with no fuss or bother. Thank you Alamgir!

Since we have to post comments here, please note that these are only minor niggles and that we were never expecting to have 5-star hotel types of comfort or service. The owner lives with his family above the property, so you will need to expect sounds of movement from upstairs. This was expected by us from previous comments and so wasn't an issue as such. As is common in the USA and Canada, appliances can be a little noisy to European ears (European manufacturers have long had to reduce noise figures for their appliances to be competitive). Again, this was expected and wasn't a problem for us. For what it's worth, the quietest bedroom is the one closest to the entrance door at the rear or the property. The heating/aircon is controlled at the main house, so if you're cold, politely ask Alamgir to raise the temperature for a while, but bear in mind that you may be baking Alamgir and his family upstairs, so be sensible! Although it would be nice to have separate heating/cooling controls, I accept that it's probably not technically possible without installing a whole 2nd heat pump system, which would be an unreasonable expectation. Just to reiterate, these are only minor niggles that didn't detract from the overall experience. Alamgir's apartment is better than most hotel rooms I've stayed in, to be fair.

Cleanliness

Just 1 single toilet facility and limited cooking pots Noisy top floor (probably because it was made of wooden materials) as people move about on the first floor. This was not comfortable at night at all for the occupants of the ground floor.

The host is the best!!! Thank you very much for making our stay more comfortable.
