Green Island in the downtown with free parking

Well designed modern apartment with a functional kitchen. Lovely green plants. The apartment is clean with exception of the bathroom walls that are dirty.

The bed mattress is comfortable but the base sheet and pillow are synthetic and they made.me sweat profusely (I woke up every morning at 4 am in a small pool of my own sweat). The pillow is also too large and soft. This is unfortunately common in Hungary so I won't reduce the rating below 9 but I personally will never stay in this apartment again because of this discomfort. The wine opener is a very cheap one so perhaps it is no surprise it was broken hence useless. No washing powder or even a single tablet was available for the washing machine. On the day I checked in Szilvia's daughter agreed that I check out at 11 am instead of 10 am but the night before I checked out Szilvia wrote me a reminder to check out at 10 am the next day. It seems there was a lack of coordination between them and the issue was solved in my favour. However, it is indicative of a broader phenomenon that is a lack of empathy to traveller's needs that I encountered in Hungary before. Archaic and frankly absurd rules such as the "quiet hours" Szilvia claims are between 20:00 - 08:00 (in fact according to Hungarian law quiet hours are 23:00 - 07:00), that there is only one large and one small towel and the choice of pillow and bed linen inevitably makes a guest feel his/her well being are not a top priority for the host. I take the time to write this because hosts in Debrecen (one of the 3 most economically depressed cities in Hungary) should realise we tourists and digital nomads are not a liability. We are in fact a prized asset and should be treated better.

Well equipped with kitchen utensils, cleaning utensils as well as household machinery. Clean and with lots of extra pillows and blankets if needed. Host was amazing and helpful with every request or question. A lovely experience overall.

Property is located close to city center, bus and tram stations are few hundred meters away. Public parking is painful in the area but luckily this property comes with an underground garage spot, 30 meters from the entrance. Flat was clean and well equipped. It even has a coffee machine and tea. Netflix was also set. Kudos for that. Host is reachable and kind, open for requests and comments.

Mattresses and pillows were too soft for us. Unfortunately, coffee machine was out of order during our stay but host assured us it would work next time :)
