Extremely Disappointing Stay at Chateau du Chatelard We booked on Booking.com what was advertised as a "Brilliant apartment in Chateau du Chatelard," but our actual experience was far from the beautifully curated pictures shown online. The discrepancies were so vast that it felt like we were staying at a completely different property. Moreover, we booked the apartment for 3 nights. Upon entry, we immediately realized that the apartment was misrepresented and forced to leave the place at midnight to find another hotel in town. We contacted booking.com and tried to cancel the apartment and they refused since the cancellation had not occurred 24 hours before. They also said that the cancellation had to be approved by the owner. Therefore they refused to this date to give any refund for the misrepresentation of the property. The location of the Chateau may be beautiful and the surroundings could be picturesque, and he exterior of the Chateau is charming and holds historical value. But that’s based on the advertised pics, NOT ACTUAL EXPERIENCE! Booking.com is severely misrepresenting the exterior and interior space, with poor maintenance and upkeep of the apartment and totally lacks the essential amenities and comfort as depicted in the ads. This experience was extremely disappointing and not worth the price paid. We expected a luxurious stay but ended up in a poorly maintained apartment. I would not recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

We entered the code for the keys, however they were the wrong keys. Therefore we had to wait for 30 minutes for somebody to open the door for us. In addition, it was very dark outside and dirty. The parking lot is also outside the Castle, and the walk is long, very dark and dangerous on the cobble stones with luggage.

We were 2 couples and I booked a 2 bedroom unit with 1 bathroom. I was not made aware that the bathroom was ensuit to one of the bedrooms. It is difficult to share a bathroom with a different couple when you have to walk through one of the bedrooms. The kitchen was poorly equipped. The whole unit needs fresh paint and the chandeliers look like they have not been cleaned over the last few years, lots of spiderwebs all around. The bath is chipped (a lot) and the shower door is broken. I recommend a new proper shower.

Good location and beautiful surroundings are the greatest pluses. Probably in summer it's even more picturesque! The contact with personnel was very swift. The kitchen was well equipped and clean.

Window in one of the bedrooms had broken glass, making the room really cold. The glass in the windows is very thin (obviously it's san old castle), hence, in the apartment, the heater has to be turned on to the maximum to make the stay manageable. Visiting in winter might not be the greatest idea. The bathroom is below standard, broken bathtub, dirt inside toilet, and sign of fungus. It's a bit of a wasted opportunity 😞

We visited in December and the Christmas tree in the room was a really welcoming & festive touch! The view was breathtaking! Check in and check out was very simple and straightforward. A super cool property to walk around and enjoy - There were lots of seating arounds around the property which would be great in the right weather. The water pressure was awesome and the hosts were incredibly responsive. Rooms were clean and cozy - kitchen had all the necessities! Would love to come back with a group and enjoy the terrace!

Nothing we didnt TRULY like - but just some notes: If you plan to visit the local area - Do your research for buses! There ARE two very close bus stops - one is about a 15 minute walk (STEEP up or down) from the Chateau (its a workout!) and the other is about a 3 minute drive (or also 15 min steep walk) to a park and ride. The first 2 days we did the walk and then decided to drive to the Park & Ride. If it was snowy or icy - that walk would have been treacherous. Some areas around the castle are a bit overgrown, we could only imagine what it was like manicured. Still really cool though. I do wish there was an info book on the history of the property.
