Stoneyhall Farm Accommodation

Beautifully situated cottage amongst pine trees. The fireplace and braai wood made available was so nice and much needed. Very reasonable to pay R60 for an extra big bag but our free big bag lasted for two cold nights and braaing. The views are stunning from the porch. The location of the cottages and their gardens are also beautiful. The back side of Drakensberg Castle peak is in front of the farm/cottages in clear view. Other Drakensberg mountains in the distance. We stayed in the "Bamboo cottage". It basically van sleep 4 adults and 4 children (in one open room upstairs) so good value for money if you don't need anything fancy. The host was very friendly and accommodating to our requests and friendly. Also has a gas hot water system that seems to be finicky at times but we had no problem. In fact, gas warm water systems advantages are that you have warm water quickly (when you open the tap) and continuously. No geyser running out of hot water with big families! In the cold Drakensberg this is essential. Its about 45kms from Drakensberg Gardens and 15kms to the nearest town Underberg. We drove there for the days activities. Just before we left we however found out Stoneyhall Farm also has fishing rods and a dam with canoe available (rods for rent) as well as hiking trails. Also other activities in the area like a vulture site. We didnt do these things though so cant comment on how they are. Also a small restaurant on the property called Protea Pantry. We didn't make use of it though and didnt realize its in their farm. Its apparently not open every day but available at request so ask.

The upstairs floor is a bit noisy so make sure to take earplugs. The facilities are a bit on the old side, yet decent. It wasn't very clean when we arrived but the host was accommodating to our requests and friendly. No microwave, electric kettle etc. Only gas stove. Also gas hot water system that seems to be finicky at times but we had no problem. Take note you need to take a gravel road for about 12kms to get to the farm. At places its not great but no problem for even a smaller car. Just drive slow. Its about 45kms from Drakensberg Gardens and 15kms to the nearest town Underberg. Everything

Our host was amazing and accommodating and came immediately to change the gas when we realized on check in that the gas bottle was empty. A lot to do in the area and just beautiful and tranquil setting, great value for money.

just two small things that is not a major issue, but the pictures showed a microwave in our unit, but there was no microwave, we reheated food on the stove. And the toaster unfortunately did not work.

Beautiful location and perfect for an overnight stay.

We arrived late, after the check in time but the host was so kind to contact us and arranged with us for the key and directions. The place was superb and cozy we had really a blissful rest. The next morning we were greeted by the beautiful views and anesthetic natural surrounding, everything just feeling so breath taking and peaceful.

Lack of 2 prong plugs, only 1 firefighter available in shop, pilot light on gas went out - wouldn’t relight, curtain fell off, chainsaw sounds through the day, motorbike from farm employee woke us up.

Lovely accommodation with wonderful owners. Breath taking views as well as a private dam which you could go canoeing
