Casa Barone

Perfect location with beautiful views of Ortigia. The apartment was spacious and clean, with lots of light in the main living area and kitchen. Comfortable with all amenities provided, including kettle in the kitchen. Welcome bottle of wine, water and juice cartons in the fridge, and breakfast items, was a very nice gesture. Great roof terrace at the top of the building. We didn’t use it much as ours was a short visit, but fantastic to have this extra space to use. Also a very good bar below on the street for breakfast or other food during the day, very friendly staff.

Bathroom was quite basic and the shower door was broken so had to be careful that water didn’t splash out, but we managed fine. Lots of steps to the top floor of the building, which we knew about, but in the hot weather this could be difficult for some people.

The location meant we got to enjoy the beauty of Ortigia the moment we stepped out the door. Or even earlier - the rooftop terrace boasts a terrific view (sea on both sides, view of Temple of Apollo). Communication with the host was quick and easy.

The mattress was very hard, so we woke up stiff most days. On Friday and Saturday night, the local restaurant played really loud music until 12 which the provided ear plugs only addressed to a certain extent. Building works that seemed to start at 3 in the morning on Saturday to Sunday night also weren't super conducive to a great night's sleep. The bin in the loo could do with a mechanism that means you don't manually have to lift the lid every time you throw something away - especially as you can't flush toilet paper but need to use the bins, having a flapping mechanism of sorts would be helpful if you're going for a late night pee. Also the photos of our apartment do not match the "Casa Barone" imagine at all.
