LA CASA SOTTO IL CASTELLO

The apartment was very clean and well maintained. The location was excellent--in the heart of the historic, picturesque old city within easy walking distance of the amazing castle and several excellent restaurants. We enjoyed walking around the streets, exploring the shops, enjoying the panoramic views of the lake, and trying new restaurants each day. We especially enjoyed the Ristorantino del Castello in the main square below the castle and just 20 meters from the apartment. (Tip: try the Cheesecake al Raffaello for dessert!) The owner, Anna, and her son, Marco, were very helpful and prompt in responding to our messages and meeting us at the house to give us keys and answer our questions.

The apartment is an old family home in the historic quarter. Though clean and comfortable, it is quite basic. Your rental fee buys you old world charm and a great location, but not a luxurious hotel room, if that is what you are looking for. The bathroom is very small, and the shower is a typically Italian space-saver variety that is barely large enough to turn around in. Important note: Do not try to drive your car to the address of the apartment. There is no adjacent parking. The streets close by are extremely narrow to drive through, and when you park to offload your suitcases, you could receive a parking ticket and fine. There are several parking lots or garages within a 5 or 10 minute walk from the apartment. As you approach the middle of town, before you get to Via Umberto I and Via Fioravanti, look for the signs with a blue square and a P in the middle or the word Parcheggio. Some are free, and some require a fee (pagamento).

The location was perfect - directly below the castle and right next to wonderful restaurants.
