The closeness to the city centre

The only good thing about this stay was the location—it was close to the city centre. Unfortunately, we were moved to a different apartment than the one we originally booked because the original unit was under repair, which was disappointing.

Our stay was very disappointing. We had specifically booked a ground-floor apartment for our elderly parents, but we were given a first-floor unit instead. This was unsafe, especially in the rain, as there were no lights at night on the stairs or outside, making it difficult and dangerous for them. There were also no proper instructions for accessing the property. The front door, located directly opposite a pub, had no keypad as stated, and we ended up getting locked out. We had to keep calling the owner and only received a response after about 15 minutes, and were then told to walk through the pub and go through the back to access the apartment while he tried to fix the issue. He fixed it by putting a stone by the door which wouldn’t close the door but unfortunately someone from the pub closed the door and again we were locked out luckily our parents were home sleeping and we had to wake them up to open the door for us late in the night when it was pouring rain. The electricity constantly kept going off, leaving us without power for nearly an hour. When the owner finally replied, he simply told us to fix the fuse ourselves. On our last day, we requested a late checkout due to our evening flight; he agreed to let us stay until 1 p.m. for £20. However, the electricity went off again. The heating was low and the apartment was freezing. After another long wait, the owner told us to go out in the rain to a shop to top up the electricity card with the £20 for which was the late check out fee, he still charged the late checkout fee after we went through all that. Other issues included very poor water pressure, no extra towels for a 3night stay, no toiletries or dish soap and no bath mat. Overall, the stay was stressful, uncomfortable, unsafe for elderly guests, and not worth the price.

The apartment was not in the location we had booked. Although the host contacted us just prior to our stay to inform us that the property had suffered 'a leak', when I dug a bit further, it appears that this is a regular ruse he uses to convince people to stay in an apartment in Leith rather than the one we had booked near Holyrood. The apartment was spacious and clean enough but it felt disingenuous to be moved apartments in this way

No bannister on winding spiral staircase …. definitely unsuitable for those with walking difficulties or the elderly (if on upper floors). Carpet stains throughout - not a good look. Bedroom windows wouldn’t shut - noisy street.
