Leith Apartment

1. Bedding had black pubic hairs over it. Pink Mould in corner of bedroom next to sleeping. Carpets dirty and stained. Cheap bedding. Carpet frayed and torn where the wood skirting had been ripped off. No room to get in and out of bed approx 8 inch clearance each side. Horrible musty smell on entry and found dirty mops etc in cupboard. No cupboard door to under sink. Entry to building dirty and stairs dirty. Old sofa from decades ago in living area. Cheap mirror in bathroom. Towels rough and some stained. Could not not sleep inside covers of bed and slept on top in clothes. Did not use any facilities at all and did not shower as the shower was old and the drain not nice. we were booked into another property by host and this was chang ed to this one at last minute as he said a flood at other one. We had no choice but to accept as too late to book else where and we had tickets for theatre. Overall we wish we had just slept in our car. Host said he would compensate but then renaged. We will take the matter up with booking,com. This accommodation was not in a fit state to be let out. I sent my comments direct to host hoping that it would help going forward and hoping he would be fair with us. He said he would give us something back but did not say what. Then when I said I had been in touch with booking .com for full refund he told me to deal with them. The whole point of staying in accommodation is to get a good nights sleep and for it to be clean and we had none of this therefore we should be given a full refund not a token gesture. We had to return home unwashed and cut our stay short in edinburgh.

The location

We initially booked this apartment for three nights. Like many other guests, on the day of our arrival (at around 1 p.m.) we were informed by phone that the apartment is not available because of suffered water damage. We were then offered a different apartment via WhatsApp, located near the castle, by James Court. We agreed. The positive side of the replacement apartment was the location, however, it had numerous negative issues. The worst was the hygienic condition. The floors and the surfaces were not properly cleaned. There was hair on the bathroom floor, old contact lenses on the night table, the carpets were dusty, there was an unpleasant smell in the apartment. We contacted the host per Whatsapp who reacted friendly and suggested to send someone to refresh the house. The next day, after we came back to the apartment, the bed was made, but it seemed to be the only change. The floor was still not properly cleaned. The old contact lenses were still where they were. The dirt on the floor was still there. After telling the host about this, he apologized and suggested sending someone again, the next day. The lenses were disposed and the floor was at least roughly vacuum cleaned. Overall the apartment is was still not in a really clean state. Many other guests explain that they had similar experiences with the host, that they got a phone call shortly before their arrival, getting offered an alternative apartment. It is inevitable to get suspicious. Our stay was extremely unpleasant and overshadowed our time in Edinburgh. We strongly advise against booking this apartment.

We were a group of 4. Due to the inconvenience caused by the rain we were unable to stay in Leith, but the owner was very kind and found us another apartment in a beautiful location. All at no extra cost. The accommodation conditions were very good and the owner was kind. If we ever come back to Edinburgh we would stay at this location again.

We had a fun family vacation in the town of Edinburgh as well as to other sites in Scotland. We were able to park our rental car in town without the daily fees which, was really good since the daily rates are so expensive. Plus the location had access to the bus and trams right nearby so we could easily go anywhere around town. The grocery store is within a couple blocks so we walked to the market a few times that helped to save on food expenses. Not to mention that there were fantastic businesses right nearby, we especially enjoyed the Ernest and Bob restaurant and the ice cream store too. The apartment was set up with care with everything we needed, had stable Wifi and was clean and neat with new appliances.

One of us may have needed a better pillow, but I found an extra one before we left in the cupboard.

The apartment was very clean and comfortable. A special thanks to Jessica, who was amazing! She was always available to help us whenever we needed it. Her explanations were very clear and easy to understand. We really appreciated her great service

Everything was great, we have no complaints.
