4 Seasons Guesthouse

This is the best guesthouse I have ever stayed at. Bodhi and his family are so kind and made me feel so welcome. I was traveling alone at first and then ended up bringing my sister here too. Bodhi took me snorkelling (for free!!) and we swam with sooo many turtles he was a pro at finding them. I felt so comfortable and safe while here (even as a solo female traveller) it was really like a home away from home. Room was clean, great aircon and the surrounding gardens were beautiful you could see so many fireflies at night it was amazing. This ended up being our favourite place of the whole trip. I stayed in a room in the older, single-story guesthouse portion. There are newer rooms in the main house for a slightly higher price. The older rooms are basic but have everything you need, including a small fridge, A/C, small porch and a place to dry clothes - very appropriate for the price. The garden is a miniature Eden - fruit trees everywhere, tons of birdlife including a pair of resident miniature owls, peacocks, small green parrots; and countless fireflies at night. Bodhi, the owners' son, spent a lot of time with me showing me the garden, and even took me snorkeling at the Hikkaduwa reef twice during the 2 days I stayed, for no extra fee. He doesn't always have time to do this, but I was lucky. You can ask him before you arrive whether he'll have time to take you. This is a place where people return to year after year, for months at a time. In the evenings you can join the conversation on the main porch, but there's no pressure to do so. In case it's a deal-breaker for you, please note that the property is adjacent to the railroad. I'm a sensitive sleeper and I was worried about this, but it didn't turn out to be a problem at all. The passing trains are definitely audible, but the entire experience of staying here was so positive that the train sounds simply didn't bother me. One other thing is that the mosquitos love fresh blood, so come prepared with repellent. My only regret about my stay was not spending more time photographing birds in the garden. Everything was perfect. Very nice and willing people with cute dog. Bodhi took us snorkeling to show us the beauty of the ocean. A wonderful peaceful garden with excellent home-grown fruit. Beautiful place, close to the train, but it didn't matter. Close to the beach. Many amazing fireflies at night, but there are mosquitoes too - you must have repellent. Room was cozy, the bed was very comfortable.

Amazing host - he took us to snorkeling for free. But that was whole experience! Not just giving us masks. I am in Sri Lanka for some time now but stay in 4 Seasons was my best day in the country. Beautiful garden. Room with garden view. Good AC. Good location close to beach, town and all you need.

The gardens are lovely- by day filled with chirping birds, and by night flitting fireflies and the sound of owls. The snorkelling trips offered by Bodie are amazing- they were much appreciated and enjoyed. The family goes out of their way to make you welcome and to make sure you are comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, plentiful and served with homemade jam. They provided me with a kettle so i could have water for tea and drinking. I carry a water bottle and thermos so i do not use plastic so much appreciated.

Really loved my stay here. Meant to stay a few days and ended up much longer. Serene setting in a BEAUTIFUL garden less than 5 mins to the beach. Room was spacious and clean. Bodhi and his family were super hospitable. Lassi the dog too. RECOMMEND!!
