Jardine Apartment @ Cairn Dhu House

Spacious apartment with character, included kitchen, washer, dryer, and heated floors in bathroom – the amenities made for a comfortable and pleasant stay at a convenient location.

The apartment’s location is excellent—just a short walk from major supermarkets like Coop and Tesco, a lovely deli, coffee shops, and even a gas station. It’s directly opposite Lews Castle, which was incredibly convenient, and made for an easy drive to Harris and the north of Lewis. We appreciated the free parking both at the front and back, and despite being near a busy intersection, it was surprisingly quiet. The space itself is generous, and the bathroom was a highlight with fluffy towels and toiletries.

Unfortunately, the overall cleanliness and comfort didn’t match the promise. The apartment felt neglected: drawers were dusty and disorganized, the kitchen was grimy, and the taps dripped constantly. The tumble dryer hadn’t been cleaned in ages—its reservoir was full and the surrounding area was covered in dust and grime. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, causing us to slide into the middle and lose sleep every night. The living room furniture was no better—hard to sit on, old and poorly designed. There were many posted rules and reminders throughout the property, which felt excessive given the lack of attention to basic comfort and cleanliness. We couldn’t find the correct manual for the cooker, and the drawer it was in was filthy. For the price we paid during high season, it didn’t feel like good value. If the hosts invest in new lounge furniture, a proper bed, and a deep clean, this could become a truly great place to stay.

The apartment is in a superb location and is a gentle uphill and downhill 10 minute walk to the centre of Stornaway. It is also very close to the excellent Charles Macleods butchers which serves the highest quality products, including ready made meals. The apartment is easily accessed from the back of the house where there is ample parking and a key lock code, forwarded by e-mail, is used to access the key. The apartment is superb, very comfortable and has all amenities one could wish for, including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Highly recommended.

Lägenheten och faciliteterna i lägenheten var mycket bra ett plus för att allt var så väl genomtänkt och smakfullt inrett! Ett plus också för gratis parkering. Det är nära att promenera ner på stan och det var ett lugnt och tyst boende. Mysigt med trädgård fast den använder vi inte då det var hantverkare under tiden vi var där.

Great location, close to town, good facilities and a lot of space.

Be careful when cooking, the smoke alarm is very sensitive but one of the neighbours kindly managed to get it stopped for us.

Very well appointed and centrally located. A lovely apartment and probably one of the best available.

To nit-pick - there needs to be a rubber mat or duck-board in the shower. It can be a little slippy.
