Sunny Apartment - By the Sea in City Center

Fantastic location, restaurants and bars on your doorstep, short walking distance to shops and amenities. Apartment really spacious and clean. Super quick response from owners with any questions. By far the best thing about this property is looking out over the harbour and sea to the stunning mountains in the background. Perfect for our first family visit to Iceland.

The location is perfect, there are bus stops, shops, cafes, restaurants and all you need. With a lovely walk you can visit the main touristic spots in the city. Generally, the area is very pretty and colorful, the sea view a treat. This apartment is also really nice and cozy, with a balcony as well. Kitchen is equipped. Beds are comfy. The customer service is always present to assist you. I recommend this place for all types of travellers.

Couches are badly stained which made it unpleasant to sit on. A hand towel in the bathroom would have been nice as well.

There were four guests but the sofa bed wasn’t made up and there were no linens for it. We had to ask. Also the host failed to mention that geothermal water smells bad, so we were worried if the water was ok to use. When we dropped the remote I the sofa and removed the cushions, it was dirty underneath, full of cookie crumbs and food. The apartment is on the ground floor so privacy can be an issue. The curtains in the bedroom are ok, but in the living room let too much light in, which is not nice if there are people on the sofa bed.

the location was incredible and the apartment was great. beds were very comfortable and the kitchen area was nice, and appliances were new. shower was nice and had a huge glass window overlooking the harbour. The apartment was laid out nicely and it seemed bigger and not cramped.

Communication with the management company could have been better, I called them twice for different requests and they never called back as promised. Never figured out how the clothes drier worked, so we had clothes hanging everywhere drying out. Screws holding the bathroom door knob missing, so the handle kept coming off. None of these things were a big problem.

If you are in town to party and want an apartment you can smoke in, and you don't care about things being clean, then this is the place for you! If you care about hygiene, cleanliness, things smelling good, and functioning properly, you might want to keep looking. Positive things: The apartment was affordable compared to others that were available. We are a family of three (2 parents and one child) and we had to find a place to stay quickly due to needing to cancel some of our other travel plans due to a 4th member of our traveling party requiring hospitalization in Reykjavik. This apartment is within walking distance of many interesting things to see and do. We enjoyed watching people walk by from the large picture window. Note that the window is street level and if you have the blinds open, everyone walking or driving by can look right in. You can wave at people in tour buses as they stare at you, which was somewhat amusing. The beds were reasonably comfortable.

First thing we noticed: the apartment reeked of cigarette smoke. There is a dirty little balcony that seems to be used just for smoking. The apartment had one frying pan and when we arrived it was dirty and on the balcony. The doorknob to the bathroom and the bedroom were both broken and falling off. Each doorknob literally just needs a couple of screws. We went to make up the sofa bed for our child and discovered 3 of the 4 folded mattress pads in the closet were *not* clean. Each mattress pad had obviously been used, with hairs and crumbs on all of them. One mattress pad even had dried blood and other bodily fluids on it. There is a very well-used small sofa in the living room that has lots of stains on it. If you lift up a cushion, you will find a lot of crumbs and old snacks. Some of the dishes in the cabinets looked unwashed. We later looked in the dishwasher and discovered a wet, still-wrapped plastic dishwasher soap tab at the bottom of the dishwasher. The hood over the stove had greasy fingerprints and smears on it. The shower curtain had mildew at the bottom of it and smelled bad. The shower drained slowly. Everything in this apartment was just kind of dirty and gross and we wished that we had spent a bit more money and rented something else. I contacted Green Key about the cleanliness of this apartment 3X. They requested that I send photos of the issues, as if they didn't believe me! The email address they provided bounced multiple times I tried to send it with photos attached. 24 hours later, Green Key sent cleaners over to "re-clean" the apartment. We only got an hour's notice they were coming over while we were out sightseeing, and all of our belongings were laid out in the apartment, which made us feel uncomfortable. They did replace all of the linens, remake the beds and wash the frying pan.
