Apartamentos Caimán Tortuguero

The place was clean, and the air conditioner worked well. The shower was good, and it had hot water. We stayed just 2 nights and it met our needs for the short stay. Very friendly host who met us at the door and showed us around the place.

Not enough bedding, there was no top sheet for the bed, only a full size polar fleece blanket for the larger bed. The window frame was bent so the sliding window sat crooked and it wouldn't close all the way or latch to lock. The stairs were very shallow and steep with the ceiling low at the turn so ducking was required. Ants everywhere on arrival and throughout the stay. Frequent loud yelling, dogs barking, and an unhappy toddler crying often just down the way.

Vanaf de voorbereidingen van de bootreis naar het dorp tot en met het settelen in het apartement was Carlos ons zeer behulpzaam: in La Pavona (vertrekpunt boot) en op de kade in Tortuguero was men op de hoogte van onze komst en werden we goed begeleid. Ook gaf hij tips waaronder hoe we colones konden krijgen in het dorp en over de diverse excursies. Een perfecte gastheer. Het apartement was niet groot en ook niet luxe. Maar wel groot genoeg voor een gezin (4 volwassenen), schoon en voorzien van alle keukenbenodigdheden, een goede douche, airconditioning en goede bedden. Het is gunstig gelegen op maximaal 5 minuten wandelen van het haventje en op een steenworp van de restaurants / winkels en de ingang van het nationaal park (jaguar trail). Toch is het heel rustig gelegen. Behalve wanneer in de namiddag wanneer de apen uit het bos dit deel van het dorp bezoeken....

Lo primero de todo, es que Carlos, el dueño, es una persona magnífica, nos ayudó en todo momento con, excursiones, estancia, sitios que ver, parqueo del coche, etc. Estamos muy agradecidos por la ayuda que nos ofreció y eso es de apreciar. La casa estaba bien, equipada con aire acondicionado, necesario para la estancia en tortuguero, solo que la casa tenía algunas humedades (tortuguero es muy húmedo por lo que raro es la casa que no las tenga). Gracias por todo! Fue un placer conocerle.

Carlos es muy simpático y está pendiente de todo, ayuda y hace buenas recomendaciones (transporte, visitas, etc). El lugar es cómodo y se agradece el aire acondicionado, es muy necesario. Está bien ubicado y cerca de la entrada del parque.

En la planta baja hace bastante calor, pero se puede dejar la puerta abierta. Los escalones para subir a las habitaciones son muy altos.

La zona y la ubicación

Poco espacio, la limpieza no era muy exhaustiva y la humedad constante.

It was enough space for the four of us and was spotlessly clean. It was easy to get to and walkable to all the local amenities. The owners are very kind and accommodating. They went out of their way to help us figure out the public transportation to and from Tortuguero. This is a great find and we would definitely stay here again!

There is no living room space.

We didn’t realise we needed to take a boat to get to the apartment which cost $25, as did the car park, while we stayed on the island

Everything was great! Apartments are modest, but have everything you need. Bed is super comfortable, the apartment is clean and you can listen to the nature sounds around you, while staying in the pueblo. Carlos is the best host ever! He helped us get the tours planned and we saw over 20 species in just one day!

Only thing that could improve would be to have a hair dryer.

The location within the village gave a real feel of being in the centre of the action and connected tot the hard-working people of tortuguero. Carlos is the best host you can wish: always able to help or come with nice stories ;and lovely empanada’s. Stay here if you come to tortuguero!
