Situation. Location. Clean and tidy.

Booked one room but arrived to find out wasn't available. I was offered another but not as good quality or facilities as what I'd booked originally. I specifically wanted ground floor and they offered me an upstairs flat. Receptionist was unsympathetic and unapologetic.

"Double-booked"

1.0

Nothing, as the flat I had booked (5 months in advance), and paid for, was double-booked and unavailable when we arrived.

In February 2025, I booked the 2-bed flat to share with a friend for 3 nights in July. It was in the same building as the ground floor 1-bed flat I booked for my 90-year-old mother; and my sister booked a 3rd flat in the same building for her and her daughter - so a family holiday with us all in the same building with our own private space. I arrived with my mother to be told they had double-booked my flat and hers, and we were unable to stay, although we had paid! (Breach of contract). The owner moved my friend & me to a completely different building and said my mother could share with us, although the kitchen & sitting room were downstairs in a basement and there was no parking for my mother (blue-badge holder). She tried one night with us, but had to move out as she could not manage the stairs to take her cup of tea from the grim basement to her room on the ground floor; and the shower next to her room kept readjusting itself to scorching hot. When I had been waiting to collect the flat keys at the Four Seasons reception, a woman & her daughter were checking in. The woman said she'd booked a flat, but that someone had rung her to say it was double-booked and moved them to hotel bedrooms. The Four Seasons tried the same trick with my husband & me in January when we'd booked a flat; they said it was double-booked and offered us rooms in the hotel instead (we refused and arranged through Booking.com to move to a different flat). On another occasion I booked a ground floor two-bedroom flat to ensure my mother could share with my husband & me. I rang ahead to guarantee it would be on the ground floor due to my mother's mobility. When we arrived, they had moved us to the first floor! Therefore, it seems the manager maximises his profits by overbooking his flats, then moving people into whatever is vacant when they arrive. So if you do book & pay, do not assume you'll end up in your reserved flat!

"It served the purpose but I would not recommend."

5.0

We were telephoned by the owner a days before visiting to say he had double booked this property and he could put us in his other hotel ( Four Seasons Budget Hotel )with complimentary breakfast . As we were visiting for a graduation it was too late to make alternative plans. It was in a good location in the centre of town. The staff were helpful that we dealt with.

It was a budget hotel . The mugs had not been washed and our daughters’ room was not very clean. I have since seen in reviews and heard from a former employee of the Hotel that double bookings are common.

"Not happy being dumped in a second rate property and being lied to"

2.0

Don’t know ! Even though we booked last year they double booked and moved ours to some house 10 minutes out of town with nothing nearby spicy No pun or restaurants a small shop that closed at 1730

Again cannot say , they lied to us telling us the other property was new , it was not and found it a bit musty and they were trying to blame booking.com

"Great place"

8.0

Staff were very welcoming as always. Great place, great for a wheelchair user and someone who has mobility issues. Comfy rooms and beds and great 2 bathrooms makes for a very plesant stay and feel at home. Great location and has everything you need. Will be staying again.

Just needs a touch up of paint as you could see where children have out greasy handmarks on the wall but that is minor

"Bad"

1.0

The replacement hotel was close to where we needed to be.

Getting a phone call on the Thursday before you're going to stay telling you that the accommodation is double booked is not great. We were offered a replacement cottage which worked fine but that cottage was dog friendly and accommodation we booked was not. I spent £135 on a dog sitter when I did not need to. Frustrating!!! The handling of the booking, considering we had already paid was nothing short of utter incompetence. The new property is OK but TV in the downstairs bedroom did not work and fixture fittings and decor need some TLC. Could be outstanding but the finer details are not being addressed.
