Mack n Tosh - Lake Tekapo

The whole area is a bit tacky and overly touristy but was disappointed with the accommodation for the following reasons. Hopefully you will see this as constructive criticism as it would be easy to fix some of the issues. We stayed for 3 nights. The place was generally clean except for the old bedding which had fluff all over it. I am guessing this place is a private holiday home for a skier or rambler which is let out when not being used – it would be great for someone young and fit who only travels with a rucksack but for a couple in their 60s with mobility issues it really wasn’t suitable and maybe should be marketed as such. See below for more as it won’t all fit in one section.

On booking I messaged asking them to notify me when payment would be taken as the site said that payment would be anytime between booking and arrival so I could transfer money to my travel debit card – they tried to take the money later that day so the payment failed. I then transferred the money and they tried again but as it was a second attempt the debit card required authorisation and obviously as I am the UK I was asleep! I would suggest checking messages before taking payment! The accommodation is accessible via a very steep path without a handrail – I have limited mobility (and I am fairly sure I notified the property beforehand as I always do but all the messages I sent have vanished). I and my 69 year old husband both had difficulties with the steep path and carrying suitcases to the cabin. There was no storage space other than one suitcase holder in a wardrobe - no drawers, cupboards or anything. We had two suitcases so one had to be left open on the floor of the living room. The internal doors all had wobbly handles and the bathroom shelf had been broken off the wall and was in the bathroom drawer. The kitchenette was good but was missing a colander/sieve – unfortunately we only found out as serving dinner so were not able to contact anyone to get this rectified. The bedroom does not have aircon – luckily for us it was fairly cool weatherwise or this would have been a problem for me. The bedroom does not have anything in it other than a bed (and the wardrobe to put one suitcase in). The bedding was old and worn (see pics) and the sheets had not been ironed. Unfortunately I was unwell whilst I was there and we did try to extend our stay – not because we were enjoying it but because I couldn’t travel. They couldn’t accommodate this so I had a very unpleasant onward journey. Not blaming them for this but wouldn’t want anyone to claim we enjoyed it as we tried to stay for an extra day.

We liked the veiw they room had all we needed

No real problems but we would like to bring to your attention that the heatpump unit thats bolted to the outside of the wall vibrates the house and there were ALOT of squashed bugs all over the celing.

It was a beautiful little place with a fantastic location. It was a great size for one person (and would be a great size for two) and had all the kitchen items needed.
