Bougainvillea House - The Heart of Simonstown

Wonderful stay at Bougainvillea House, the key instructions and property detail on arrival was very clear and easy to follow. The owner was very attentive via text and was quick and efficient to provide additional clean linen when required. BH is up a (slightly steep) but quiet lane off the main street. The surrounding houses with their white walls and flowing Bougainvillea gives the property a very Mediterranean feel. The house is old fashioned but has all the amenities needed for a short or long stay. The kitchen is spacious and again serves quick meals or a 3 course dinner prep being fully kitted. The lounge and enclosed verandah were perfect when the South Easterly blows as its sheltered and private yet gives a glimpse of the harbour below. It is an very quiet, secure and peaceful spot and only the birds and odd baboons create any noise. We stayed for 5 days during April and found the house and bedrooms as well as beds comfortable and spacious.

As some other reviewers have mentioned previously the soft furnishings (carpets and sofa's) could do with some TLC or replacement but the ample soft furnishings made the house feel homely and cosy

Cleanliness of the property. The host kept us informed of everything from the start right to the end of our stay. Peace and quiet and stunning views and very homely feel. Highly recommend Bougainvillea House.

The cleaning lady was on hand and gave us the keys when she finished cleaning.

Ant infestation in family bathroom. Ants in both bed rooms. Toilet cistern in family bathroom broken kept running. The hot and cold tap covers on the bath and basin were switched around. Black mould in the shower in en-suite. Needs a thorough cleaning. The carpets need a thorough clean/shampoo. Beige not a good colour for heavy foot traffic in a holiday let. The bin and bin bags were overflowing in courtyard and stank. But placed thes outside in over covered car park area. Collected same day.

Bed was very comfortable. Both terraces were very nice. Good views of the harbour. A short walk to tiwn although steep. A lovely old cottage but kitchen and bathroom need renovating.

House was heavily used and needed a deep clean. TV and Internet were poor. Netflix difficult to use. No information or handbook in house. No warning about baboons appearing on bin day.

The elevated position gives it good views over Simon’s Town and False Bay. Although it is on a steep road it is easily navigated by car, just off the Main Street. The house is well equipped, spacious and clean. There is very good provision for load shedding periods with adequate lighting and ‘phone charging. An overall beautiful place with two balconies with sea views. Garth is a helpful and friendly host. We would recommend a short or long term stay at Bougainvillea House.
