Maison 1747 - Gîtes de Standing en Vieille-ville avec Cour

Lovely place in the centre of the old town.

We found the mattress a bit too hard but that was a small negative.

The location is lovely, right in the historic heart of the town and next to the Basillica. Less than a minute walk to an array of great restaurants, bars and cafes, plus a variety of artisan shops and bakeries. Only a 5 min drive to a supermarket and attractions, such as Nausicaa. Free car park very close by. Only a 30-min drive from the ferry port in Calais. Very close the the port (fresh fish!) and a really lovely beach. Parking is reasonable cost by these areas. Food locally is delicious and not over-priced. Lovely walks locally, around the wall and up to the chateau/museum. The Crypte is definitely worth a visit - amazing! Lovely newly fitted bathroom in the apartment. The apartment was clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Gorgeous big dining table! Lovely, traditional old features around the apartment - cornices, interesting cupboard doors, beams, etc.

Beware if you have limited mobility as there are many, many stairs up to the apartment (2nd floor of the building) and yet more stairs inside the apartment to get up to the bedrooms! Inside the apartment they are wooden, open stairs, so, not really suitable for small children. All the windows open wide too, so, again, definitely not suitable for young children who could easily fall out. The bathroom door doesn't lock, so, with 4 of us staying there, we had to keep checking nobody was in there! Not a big problem, but it would be better if there was a lock on the door. The door on Bedroom 3 wouldn't close as part of the latch is missing (it looks to have broken off as the wood of the doorframe is splintered) which means our daughter had to wedge the door shut with a chair every night, which wasn't ideal - it would be good to get that fixed for future visitors. There is only one shelf in the oven and there was no baking tray in the kitchen, so we had to improvise with other pots and pans to cook things in the oven. Not the end of the world, but a second shelf and some baking trays would be a great idea. There was also no iron. There was no soap or handwash in the bathroom - again, not a big issue as we added it to our supermarket grocery shop, but I would consider soap by the bathroom sink to be a basic (alongside toilet roll - which there was plenty of!). If you are arriving by car, avoid trying to park on the road outside as it is extremely narrow and usually very busy with other cars parked there. There is, however, a free car park just around the corner, so it wasn't really an issue. The sofa isn't the most comfortable and the seat cushion tends to 'travel' off quite regularly! There is also only really living room seating for 4 people, but the apartment sleeps 6 - so be aware of this if there are more than 4 of you. None of these are complaints, we actually really enjoyed our stay! Just wanted others to be aware of these bits.
