Secret Retreat

location was very good with parking. Bathroom was clean with a good shower

Unfortunately the property is damp with black mould - water collects on the floor behind the bed and there is mould growing along the skirt board and in patches on the wall which was wet to touch. Kitchen window has to be left open all the time to reduce condensation. I needed to leave the heating on all day to dry out the room otherwise my clothes and the bed felt damp The kitchen was tiny, the fridge door needs to be switched around so that it's more easy to access the contents

Walking distance to local attractions in Bowness & Windermere. Free parking down a lane at back of accommodation which is the entrance. Presents as nice on website but in reality is quite small when travelling with large suitcases. Okay for a x2 night stay. If wanting to stay longer, I'd look elsewhere.

Unable to dry clothing as no drying rack provided. Had to go to laundromat to use tumble dryer. No iron. Accommodation was cramped with only one armchair which fits the description of 'cosy'. Mattress on bed could be updated. Shower is tiny.

Good central location.

Quite small.could be a bit cleaner.

Great location. Travel cot for little one to sleep in. Really comfy and a home away from home feel too it.

We specifically loved the location, right around the corner from our friends, and central to everything we needed. Bars, restaurants and shops were in walking distance, including Lake Windermere as we were staying in Barrow-on-Windermere.

The long lane to The Secret Retreat is not made of tarmacadam. I am an electric wheelchair user and after just one trip up, and then back again, my pneumatic tyres and wheels were really pushed to the limit, because of rocks, stones, gravel, and dirt. All next trips, we had to, because of it being a narrow lane, reverse out to end, get my wheelchair out, and I'd sit waiting while my husband did the 150yards or so, back up the lane, park and walk back.
