Service Apartments, Park Street, Calcutta

Its a great location, just off Park Street. All amenities are nearby and the city is awake around you till late night. Plenty of restaurants and stores within walking distance and even some of the major attractions like Victoria Memorial and Birla Planetarium are accessible on foot. The room is basically clean and has all amenities - TV, washing machine, kettle, microwave, cooking gas, utensils, dinnerware, water filter etc. Its comfortable for a small family to stay for a few days. We didn't cook, so not sure how it will be with the smell. For us, the washing machine was a life savior as we were continuing to another destination. Also we didn't have to use the air conditioner since the weather was slightly on the cooler side. Amenities such as towels and toiletries are provided and are refilled on request. Breakfast was available, however, we had it only once. It was toast and eggs on that day and it was alright. Staff are friendly and polite and try to create a homely feel for you. Food delivery (Swiggy, Zomato) and travel (Uber, yellow cabs, other taxis) are all readily available and pretty much round the clock.

1. The area tends to be very noisy late into the night. Some nights it went on till 3 AM or so. If you're sensitive to sound, plan to carry some ear plugs. 2. The room had mosquitoes and after the first night we bought repellants. Later we figured out that the staff were leaving the windows open and this was causing the issue. 3. Staff are not professionally trained in service. So don't be surprised if they walk in on you unexpectedly. Also, language skills are limited. We managed, but this could be challenging if you do not speak basic Hindi. 4. The building itself is very old and seems unkempt. The elevator is a very old one. The building didn't appear to have any staff such as a watchman. Not sure what will happen if you encounter an issue like getting stuck in the elevator. 5. The building ground floor seems to be a haven for stray dogs at night. Couple of nights when we came back late, there was more than one dog in the building. While they didn't create any trouble, it was not a very comforting feeling. 6. On the day we were leaving, water supply ran out early morning and the staff didn't seem to know what to do. After waiting for almost 20 minutes I called the owner as we were getting late to get to the airport. He did not answer the call. This was around 5:30 AM. Thankfully the water supply resumed and we managed to make it just on time. Again, service in case of exceptional scenarios could be a challenge. 7. The room and facilities are clean and comfortable. However, the experience cannot be considered superior which is the impression created by the very high rating. Its definitely above average and bordering on good, but not great.

Centrally located very convenient to a variety of restaurants shops Park street very happening place. Apartment neat n tidy bathroom very clean n hygienic bed linen spotless white towels changed daily. Very comfortable stay. Transport no problem Highly recommended. Pradeep Meid Pune

Home away from home. Felt safe and cared for. The two female staff were extremely helpful and caring. Lovely people. Spotlessly clean Accommodation a couple of minutes walk from the main area of park street for restaurants, etc. 10 minute walk to Mother Teresa house , perfect location to stay if volunteering.
