The location of the cabin offers some nice views and interesting walks around. There's a river nearby as well, making a nice location for those wanting to spend sometime in nature

Where do I start. As customers we were expected to clean the place up upon departure (hoover , mop, sanitise) and provide photographic evidence of the work we did, so as to prove to the 'manager' we left the place to their standards. They were pushy about it as well, requesting the photos. Also, the customers are expected to take the garbage to the bins themselves. So even if you're heading north, you'll still have to make a 1 hour detour south to look for bins in the villages on the main road. As no bin locations are provided in the listing, we had to use some random house bins, as we couldn't find any public ones. The property has NO TOWELS. No mention of that in the listing. We used some clothes of ours to dry ourselves after shower. The property is using low quality single-use disposable bed sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases, which apart from the 'hospital' feeling they give you are also not so great for the environment. Judging from the amount of single-use bed sheets packages there are in the property, and the expectations from the customers, it feels like the managers are planning to never visit the place and let the guests do the work for them. This is plain laziness. The fact that the place was clean when we arrived I guess we owe it to the previous customers, not the managers of the property. All in all, this is by no means a hospitality service that it's been provided.

Remote location and beautiful coutryside. Hiking routes right from your doorstep. Well organised and generous space. Well equipped kitchen.

There is quite a lot of self-maintenance of the space involved to prepare it (in winter especially) and also to clean it after. Therefore it probably makes more sense to stay longer, 5 days or more. Also expect to travel longer as the road is unpaved in places. A pretty remote place to be, which is what I wanted.

Beautiful location, you really get value for your money. Host was really good with communication. Was lucky enough to see the northern lights right above us

We liked the bedroom being separate, could maybe do with a little baby cam so you can listen on the kids from the main part. And maybe a dvd player for the tv. Roads are very icy getting in and out. To be expected with the location just add extra time for your journey

since it is located in the middle of a farm, there is no light pollution at night. thus, we managed to see the aurora clearly.

the distance between the house with the main road is like 25km away. I think this needs to be considered of for a first-timer tourist coming to Iceland.

The location was absolutely amazing. It is in the middle of nowhere, with the most beautiful landscape. We were able to see the northern lights. The house has everything if you like to cook and it was warm and cozy inside the cabin. In the main cabin you have the living room/ kitchen with a sofa-bed, bathroom and shower. Outside you have a small cabin with four individual beds.

The house was not perfectly clean when we arrived, but we understand this is not the owners fault since the cleaning has to be made by each guest when leaving so you have to be lucky if the previous guests left the house clean enough. But it wasn’t something problematic. If you are looking for a experience in the wilderness and have an open mind, it would be ok :)

2 night stay at Hekla Nordicabin manage to see Northern lights.

Sleeping room is separate from the main house. At night need to go Toilet need key open 2 doors and lock 2 doors. Unless you feel safe to leave 2 doors unlock. Sleeping room if heat on too strong, bunker top bed will feel like Sauna. Else below will feel cold. Sleeping room mattresses is not comfortable. Cleanliness depent on how well the previous customer cleanup. Floor can be still dirty. Light at the main house is pretty dimm even at the shower room. Got cctv outside the house BUT no wifi to use. So require to have your own data plan.
