Dimore del Borgo Antico - La Zaffara

Location in historic town of Monopoli and room looks as amazing as it does in the photos, A great looking apartment.

Room has lime was crumbling off walls going into suitcase and while sitting on toilet. No where to dry clothes for swimming bathers and towels, being a seaside town where you swim everyday.

We woke up to 8 large cockroaches the first morning we were there. 5 were alive, 3 dead. We are not unfamiliar with roaches since we live in the US but these very large, active roaches, not just a couple of small dead ones. When we called the number provided they were responsive and somewhat sympathetic but told us it was normal and there wasn't anything they could do about it until their partner arrived at 1pm (this was 8am). To us that was unacceptable, particularly since we have a 20 month old. We went back and forth, trying to convince them to at least have someone come and remove the 3 large ones we couldn't reach on the ceiling that were moving and sometimes making their way down. Then we would figure out what to do about preventing more appearing. It turned out that the contact they gave us was for the cleaner who, to no fault of her own, naturally couldn't do much. I had asked to speak to the owner and eventually the cleaner came round and was very nice but again could not do anything. She said I would receive a call from the owner, who texted to say there was nothing they could do and if we wanted to leave they would refund the money. We did immediately but of course it was a huge stress and inconvenience to have to find other accommodation on the same day and move everything over. I understand that these things are somewhat unavoidable (although there are preventable treatments that can be used) but they should not host a holiday rental if they have issues like this. It seemed like it was not the first time that it had happened. Additionally, when we arrived the apartment was extremely humid and someone had left the kitchen window open. We immediately closed it and put on the AC but it seemed crazy that not only did it seem like nothing was being done to prevent the cockroaches but there was issues actively causing them that could have been avoided.

It was lovely decor and great location as you could walk everywhere to beach, restaurants

There was lot of cockroaches so there is obviously a problem with them and I hated that, every morning we got up they were scattered around the floor. We also only got 1 towel each to do us for 4 night

host, his wife and the staff was extremely nice !!! room was fantastic !!! food was marvelous !!!

that we had to leave so soon 😃
