Campofranco was the most welcoming town so far on the Magna via Francigena. People all through the town wanted to connect. Lovely Sicily for sure.

No internet. But not so important on a Camino

The location is on the Magna Via Francigena walking route.

Despite listing 3pm as the check in time, on the day the host told me we could not check in until 5.30pm. We had walked 25km in 31° heat and then had to wait for her for 3 hours to enter the property. She did not show up until 6pm. Her communication around this was rude and unapologetic. The host had listed a washing machine and cooker in the available facilities. She would not let us use the washing machine and had switched off the gas to the cooker. She had also locked the cupboard full of crockery and glassware so we could not use any of it. While we were in the flat getting settled the host walked up and down the road about 20 times, pacing back and forth under the balcony and then sat at the bar next door for the remainder of the evening keeping watch. On arrival the host had recommended a nearby restaurant for dinner. We went over and the proprietor was aggressive and going out of his way to try to intimidate us, staring, scowling and slamming down cutlery and menus. Everything we tried to order he claimed they didn't have. It was a bizarre experience, unlike any of the wonderful hospitality we encountered everywhere else in Sicily. There weren't any other restaurants locally so we asked the host if we could use the cooker to make our own food. She was really annoyed about this, huffing and rolling her eyes and clearly bad mouthing is to her friends. She begrudgingly connected the gas and told us the last group of walkers had messed up her property and that using the cooker 'better be worth it'. She looked furious when she left the property, which was bewildering. The electrics went off multiple times. We established that they fused when the kettle was in use at the same time as something else. After a two-minute shower the base filled up and would not drain. We are a group of five women in our thirties on a hiking trip across Sicily.

Everything was like we booked. The owner was really nice and welcoming! Perfect location - right in the heart of the city!

Very centrally located. Maria is a wonderful and personable host and she has supplied the apartment with everything you could possibly need.

very well located in Campofranco, perfect for Magna via Francigena, easy 3 km further from Sutera where room are difficult to find. very good value, great host good facilities

The best thing about this property was the host Maria Grazia. It was Easter and everything was shut. She went out of her way to provide us with lots of food at no charge. She is a lovely, kind and generous woman.
