De vriendelijke ontvangst en rondleiding door de tuin, de gevulde koelkast met ontbijtspullen, de volle fruitmand, de tonijnmaaltijd en zalige caramelpudding voor onze eerste maaltijd, het welkomsflesje Madeirawijn, het gebruik van de groentetuin en de barbeque en het terras met een fantastisch uitzicht op de haven en de ondergaande zon,

Everything! Felt like staying inside a Botanical Garden. Abel was a great host and so welcoming, he even shared with us his veg and fruits from his garden. The best avocado we ever ate. Also, there is a great sunset view from the roof top of our flat.

Absolutely nothing

Quinta do Bom Sucesso is a unique place, and we really enjoyed our stay here. We were met by the host upon arrival, and he showed us around the beautiful house and gardens. They had prepared a delicious meal for us, as well as homemade caramel pudding. Fresh fruits, eggs (from their own chickens), bread and other groceries were available for us, and we could enjoy salad and vegetables from the garden. This was highly appreciated and we felt very welcome. The house was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed for our stay. The outside seating area and the garden was very nice, and we spent a lot of time outside enjoying the greenery and the view. I can highly recommend this place. There are also some shops and a very good bakery just up the street. The location is very convenient for exploring Madeira, especially if you have a car. Easy access to hiking areas directly from the house, either via the local levada/trail or with the gondola. The city center is about 15-20 minutes walk downhill.

The street traffic creates quite a bit of noise at times.

It was absolutely beautiful and we a wonderful welcoming lunch with tuna salad, fresh bread and wine. There was baskets of eggs and fruits, Madeira wine and honey cake and a fridge full of drinks. Best of all was Theresa’s delicious home made flan. We have travelled a lot but nut never experienced such generosity from hosts. The apartment itself was beautiful, tucked away in the garden surrounded by banana trees. It was so quiet that all you could here was the gentle sound of the hens pecking when we sat outside at the table. There was a rooftop terrace above the apartment which had amazing views of the Ocean and the City. The swimming pool also has wonderful view of the sea. Around the corner the are two mini markets, an artisan bread shop and a fruit and vegetable shop. There is a good bus service to Funchal and botanic gardens which were amazingly beautiful. Then we came home to Theresa’s botanic garden. Every inch is covered in vegetables, fruits and flowers. We were invited to help ourselves. One night Theresa gave us fresh runner beans from it. In January !

For winter visitors a cover over the pool at nighttime would be welcome but maybe not worth the expense or the work. It must be lovely and warm most of the year.

Los dueños encantadores y dispuestos a ayudar en lo que fuera. Pusimos lavadora y no se nos secaba por la humedad que había y nos dieron mas toallas, trapos de cocina… Nos dejaron comida y fruta del propio huerto que estaba buenísima. Cama cómoda. Cocina bien amueblada. Lavadora disponible fuera del apartamento. Parking perfecto. Entorno muy acogedor.

Para llegar a la cocina tenias que salir por el balcón, no estaba conectado directamente en el interior con la habitación, lo que supuso un incordio por las lluvias que hicieron esa semana y por las mil vueltas que das cocina-habitación… no estamos acostumbrado a que no esté conectado directamente en otra estancia del mismo apartamento es supuso incomodidad. La luz del baño horrible.. que se encienda con presencia no me gustó ya que te levantas a la noche al wc y se enciende. TV pequeña.
