Eltos Karoo Stay Guest Farm

It was a real Karoo farm.

I was expecting a farmhouse, but this was very basic. The house was small and there were no nice touches. A small honesty bar would have been nice since it was so remote. It was very basic and not well maintained.

Location was really peaceful and relaxing

Have you seen the Hercule Poirot episode that opens with the caption ,"South Africa 1896" about a wealthy man implicated in the murder of his prospecting partner many decades before? Well you could have been there in this location. Being off grid the facilities are basic. But sitting out watching the sun go down was glorious.

Away from other buildings, in lovely natural landscape.

The hot water generated from LPG heater could be problematic for those who have never used one, although the hostess explained the workings. The security doors and windows suggested that theft may have been a problem in the past, being so close to Laingsburg. But I guess it is rather safe than sorry.

This accommodation is well sorted and was perfect for us as we only needed to sleep over for one night during our snow chasing expedition. The host was very friendly and very helpful, the apartment was clean and well organized and the BBQ area was just amazing. On arrival, were taken to the apartment immediately as per previous arrangements and thus we were able to settle in and lit the fire in no time. the next morning we were greeted by the breathtaking mountain view while enjoying a lovely cup of brew and listening to raindrops on the roof, getting us ready to continue on our great journey.

During the night the low voltage alarm for the solar system went off and woke us all up, be prepared to use as little as possible power when visiting this accommodation. Also keep in mind that the Wifi did not work from midnight until the morning hours and there is no network coverage at the apartment, but we did notice that there is network coverage at the main gate.
