The Barn, McGregor

The peaceful garden and surrounds, pet friendliness unique stay,

We were not well prepared for what the town offers, eg Dry Firewood nowhere to be found, on a Saturday, nor firelighters, nor charcoal, (even though our host pre-warned us), we forgot these items. Establishment provided one ' nights wood and lighters. VERY COLD in winter months, heaters are provided, but best pack a very warm blanket or two. The outside shower in winter, was a challenge, but different! We were also clueless that to access McGregor from the N2, would offer mainly dust roads, if you own a double cab with a tawny cover, best wrap up your luggage and anything else in your bin.

The calmness of the area and the house felt like we were secluded from people and in our own bubble but close to town to get anything we needed. It was very hot and the host helped us combat this by providing us fans. We loved how the place was decorated, and it was entertaining exploring the different artifacts on the house. They were very helpful in suggesting places to go in the area and explore. We went to the town's Christmas market and saw SANTA ON A DONKEY CART!

Definitely take your own meat if you were planning on a braai, because there isn't a butcher in town, but there are other convenience shops that can help with this problem.

We loved the big fireplace and the heated blankets on the beds. It really helped with the cold!
