Brackenburn Trout and Trail Retreat

Hubby and i booked to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. Absolutely amazing place. Such a peaceful getaway... not forgetting the super friendly dog Silver who never left our side... Will definitely be back again.

Beautiful accommodation which included everything. I love that it was a whole house, with big rooms. Kids enjoyed the outside play area, on site free cannoning and hiking trial. By far best peaceful space we have been too.

The road leading to the property is still under construction. However we managed by going easy and slowly.

Silver the dog! Stunning location. The area had an power outage due to unexpected heavy snowfall, but the hosts went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable. We had an amazing time

The location was good beside that local stores were far, but it was an amazing place to unwind. kids enjoyed themselves paddleboarding and some activities that were in the yard.

We did not like the fact that during the 2 days stay they was no electricity, and we had to bath with cold water. they was no network and our phones were off because we couldn't recharge our batteries. They need to have solar panels for backup or generator. kudos to the host they tried all their best to make us feel comfortable.

No backup power facilities during power outages

The location is beautiful and all the hosts were very welcoming. We were given the cottage overlooking the dam and mountain, absolutely stunning. The view is worth the price and we loved staying there. The cottages were large and light and had everything you needed. The kids loved the playset and getting rowed across the damn. We were also incredibly lucky to see the Serval running around the dam early one morning.

Just a warning rather than a dislike. The roads between Nottingham Road and the retreat are appalling. You ideally need a 4*4 or high ground clearance vehicle to get through some of the potholes. It takes around 45-60 minutes to drive that stretch of road, so you definitely want to get everything you need before arriving as it's not a road you want to drive more than you have to.

Nice and quiet area near mountains, not so far from Joburg and Durban. Very kind staff and lovely dog!
