Riverside Retreat - Durham

Very nice host, well prepared apartment, attention to details. Great location!

Tricky to maneuver car into and out of parking space.

The location of this well-equipped apartment could not be better, situated on the River Wear 5 minutes from the cultural centre (Cathedral/Castle) of Durham. This apartment is very comfortable and has everything you want in terms of comfort…which borders luxury. The host James was brilliant and very welcoming. There was a bottle of rosé Prosecco in an ice bucket on our arrival, with fresh strawberries and a chocolate cake in the fridge - a great way to start our mini-beak. However, the outstanding feature of this stylish apartment is the spacious riverside balcony (which includes comfortable seating furniture) with a spectacular view of the River Wear. The weather was great so we snacked on the balcony whilst watching the world go by on the River Wear, that world included a host of fantastic wildlife: Cormorants, Housemartins, Wrens, Dippers, Wagtails and many different species of gull. Apparently there are Otters too, but we didn’t see them. Fantastic apartment, fantastic break!

Not much if anything to improve - a possible oversight, there were no teabags. Lots of coffee, including an espresso machine, but we did like a cup of tea first thing in the morning - however this was very easily (and quickly) rectified - apartment very close to high street and a Tesco Express.

Fabulous location on the river in the centre of Durham, but despite it's great location it wasn't noisy (which was a concern when we first went into the apartment). James, our host was excellent, very informative with regard to the flat and the local attractions. Onsite parking was a huge bonus. Durham is a great place to spend a few days.Highly recommend Durham and this apartment.

Fantastic location with secure parking. The host was very friendly and helpful.

The place is in need of some maintenance. Veranda wasn't cleaned or the front door area. Despite extras like strawberries and cream and proscecco etc it was missing kitchen basics like cloth, sponge or t towel. No information about what to do with rubbish.

Situated along the riverbank in the heart of Old Durham. The property was immaculate with comfortable beds and a fully equipped kitchen together with a lovely outdoor balcony overlooking the river and private parking. Host was very helpful and provided a generous welcome pack . Highly recommended for two couples, we would stay there again.

James met us at the location and helped us with parking. We were unsure if our pick-up truck would fit int he carpark, as I know Durham is old and can be tight for space, but yes it fitted. A wonderful apartment, well equipped and a lovely surprise from our host waiting there on ice! A fantastic location and very comfortable.

That my stay was only 2 days long. I had just got settled and I had to go back to work ;-( But that is not a fault of the host or the apartment.

This is an exceptional property with everything to hand. It was immaculately clean and the host was so helpful. The apartment is right in the city centre close to all amenities. The host left some lovely Easter treats for us to enjoy.
