Little Alfama Town

The apartment was in central Alfama. In the apartment you could find everything needed for your stay ( as advertised on the booking). Spacious enough for 2 person and very cozy. Benjamin, the owner was as well very helpful in giving us all information possible.

The location was great. Just a few minutes from old town and to a tram stop. Benjamin is really nice and gives good recommendations. It is a small room but you nevertheless have a lot of space which we liked a lot.

There hasn’t been an ax and the heat and humidity in the room at night was making the nights a little uncomfortable. And due to the humidity we found a cockroach in the bathroom. The stairs are another form of exercise and right in front of the window is a street lamp. I would still come here again though

The washing machine. Historic district. Lots of shops and places to eat near by. Nice towels. Benjamin was great. Friendly, responsive and informative. He even helped us with our bags. I liked the noise from the street.

All our activities involved going down and then up the very steep hill. This was very difficult. I do not recommend this place if you are not fit. Even those who are fit will find it challenging. In retrospect a place at the bottom of the hill would have been better for us. It was not easy for cars to access the climb either with lots of congestion. It was quicker believe it or not to walk. The light outside the window made sleeping difficult. Closing the blinds meant that we were stifled by the heat. The tiny fan was not adequate. It is a small room so a big fan would not have been the solution. The bathroom was tiny and a little grungy. The sink was especially small. The stairs up to the apartment were dangerously steep. Getting on to the sidewalk was difficult.

Location near Largo Portas do Sol was perfect for exploring Alfama and accessing the trams. The owner was good at communicating and available for early check-in.

The steps from entrance to first floor apartment are no joke — extremely steep and very narrow. You have to climb sideways and go very carefully while holding onto the banister or you’ll slip. if you have heavy or large luggage or mobility issues I would look elsewhere. Otherwise it was great!

Close to magnificent views and many restaurants
