Oxfordshire Living - The Tolkien Apartment - Oxford

The property has everything you need, very good size, really liked it all.

There is a bar downstairs and the apartment windows are right above the bar. There is no AC and opening the windows brings all the noise in the house: you can hear all conversations, the people are staying until 3 am (although the bar closes at 1 or 2 am) and drinking and talking loud. At 8 am they arrange the tables or throw the bottles, it is a very noisy environment all day and night.

Noise from the pub downstairs

Location, facilities, cleanliness, perfect for our short stay but would also be great for a week too.

Nothing. No issue with sound as good double glazing but I am guessing it could be a bit noisy if the windows were open

The location was wonderful. This is our second stay with the host. We were very pleased with our stay and would defnitely return.

Lack of sound proofing (It was low season in January but we could still hear a lot of loud noises from the square. Ex. Trucks unloading at 5 a.m. ) Bring ear plugs!

Apartment was centrally located with easy access to both shopping, train and bus stations. Westgate shopping centre is just across the street, where you will find several shops, including a John Lewis. The location also made visting the city and colleges very easy. The apartment was clean and well furnished. It also was equipped with all the amenities and kitchen utensils needed to cook and have meals. We visited Oxford when temperatures were very low and below zero. Despite the bitter cold, we were always kept warm and cosy with the apartment well heated. Vanessa was easy to reach and we received clear instructions for our check-in and check-out. Altogether a lovely, comfortable stay.

Noise from Wetherspoons / The Swan & Castle pub just below apartment can get a bit loud especially on Fridays and Saturday evenings. That said, having a pub downstairs can also be quite convenient to meet up with friends and relax over drinks. As they say, "when u can't beat them, join them." Noise did not persist too late, thankfully.
