"Nice place to stay but poor directions and communication"

6.0

The apartment was well equipped for a short stay with plenty of equipment in the kitchen, had everything you need, it's good value, good wifi and the outdoor seating area was nice and secluded with pretty views. I booked this last minute as I needed somewhere to stay before my flight for one night and it was fine. I thought it was good value for a single person also.

Google maps directions sent me down a narrow road on the edge of a cliff blocked by a rock fall and I had to detour through a large industrial area to reach the property (based on directions from a local, this wasn't obvious on Google maps). Property wasn't easy to spot given no signage and the path up to it is rather steep if you have luggage. I messaged the host on booking.com when I was lost and got no reply, and tried to call but couldn't get through. When I found the place he seemed nice but not too bothered about my experience and didn't speak much English. He just kept saying "WhatsApp" (I assumed he meant I should have called/ messaged him on WhatsApp?). While the property itself was fine for what I needed, there could definitely be better directions on booking.com as to how to reach the place and better communication with guests here, as I found this experience quite stressful as a solo traveller in a rental car.

"Don’t expect a 5 star hotel with a comfortable location but rather authentic place surrounded with banana trees and leva"

9.0

Close to nature, a lot of green around and clean, well equipped little apartment. There are 2 ways to get to the place; from line 3 bus stop walking almost all the time uphill for 1.5 km along the industrial complex, which may be an issue for some, or walk from a bus stop of lane 81 through a beautiful levada - less challenging physically but not for those, who are afraid of heights. The host doesn’t speak English but uses translator to help in everything he can. Very friendly and nice gentleman. Brought me fruits from their garden ☺️

It gets a little noisy in the day as the apartment is close to the industrial area but I was gone hiking so it wasn’t a problem for me. Unless you like hiking and have proper footwear, it’s better to have a car to get to this place.

"Passable"

5.0

It is an entire unit: bed, little kitchen (I didn't use, so I don't know how well everything worked) little table and couch to sit on, as well as shared space to use directly outside. It is a short drive to Camara de Lobos, and that's a cute little town.

YOU NEED A CAR. It was difficult to find because it didn't make sense on the map. You drive on a one way road down a hill, past an industrial zone, and keep driving until you park near the water plant. Then you will cross back over the bridge, and above the tarped area on your left is where the rooms are (3 or 4 total, I think?). I only found it because I found someone on the way to direct me, and even then I got lucky the host was there when I arrived cause I was still unsure. If you want quiet and isolation, you will definitely find that here. For me it was too isolated and as a solo female traveler a little creepy to return to every night. The host doesn't speak English so there was a lot of google translate being used, but it was still confusing and I'm certain I didn't understand everything. He was friendly. The room was fine, I could see some areas (under the table, the chairs) hadn't been cleaned recently, but overall clean enough. The pillows on the bed weren't great. I don't think the hot water lasted too long. I don't think there is AC, though a little fan is provided. If it gets really hot that might not be sufficient, but I don't know. There is a locked door to get into the shared "terrace" for the rooms, and then another key to get into your room. Upon departure you leave your key in the room (at least that was my instruction) and the door to your room locks automatically. MAKE SURE the second door to get off the terrace is unlocked before you lock your keys in your room. Fortunately The host was able to come to the property and let me out, but that was stressful.

"Super clean and safe pics on @beeart.o to see view at night a must see!"

6.0

Quaint little local farm spot to experience Madeira heart. Pics on @beeart.o and a great spot between hikes along the island. The local charm is so kind and sweet.

Could revamp decor but fully functional clean and super safe!

"A little bit basic, but very good value."

7.0

The owner was helpful. It's quite close to the centre of Camara De Lobos which has some good restaurants. Good value for money.

Bit tricky to find in the first instance and the approach road is not exactly smooth

"Solid apartment, location kills it all - don’t recommend"

4.0

The apartment was clean.

The location is horrible: 30 min walk from the nearest bus stop, behind a electricity and rock factory, streetdogs barking 24/7, 50€ per night is expensive for this place

"Hidden gem"

9.0

A secluded location with a great little apartment. Well thought through with everything you need.

It was difficult to find, Google took me up a dead end. The owner was trying to WhatsApp me to meet, but I was driving and didn't realise. The road was poor but drivable.
