Sottovento

Anna, our host, was proactive, friendly, helpful and responsive. She had good recommendations for local restaurants and helped us book a taxi when we departed for our next destination.

Unfortunately, construction had just started on the boardwalk right outside our apartment's balcony a day or two before we arrived. Also, the weather was largely cold, rainy and windy while we were in Monopoli. Of course, this was no fault of our host!!! But despite the weather and construction work, we still made the best of our visit and quite liked Monopoli. To visit this city when the weather is better would be a terrific experience. I should add that large people, espeicially those who are not mobile, should NOT book this apartment. The stairway access is steep and narrow, and the bedroom and bathroom are very snug.

We maintained contact with the property, both through Anna and her friend Daria, obtaining the keys and checking out. Daria met us on check-in and is a true gem. Enjoyed her very much. Built in the 17th Century, the apartment is 'small' compared to what Americans are used to; makes up for it with loads of Old World Charm and location. The Old Walled City of Monopoli is a treat to wander through.During our stay, both Daria and Anna were very helpful with any questions, always offering assistance. We finally had opportunity to meet Anna face-to-face when we checked out and enjoyed meeting her. She took us to the unit above us, which was REALLY nice - great view!

Nothing that Sottovento had any control of - the beach/plaza and walks that would have been almost straight out our door, across the street were under construction. That would have been amazing access.

A wonderful, spacious, clean room. The room was as described. The owner was very approachable, caring, and helpful. We were delighted and highly recommend it. We felt like we were in a castle room. The historic walls and flooring hit the spot.

Anna was such a fantastic host, so helpful with everything we needed from food and beach recommendations to tracking us down an iron for the apartment. She was so lovely and acommodating, even left us a bottle of wine and snacks!! The apartment itself is beautiful, on the edge of Monopoli old town which is so authentic italian. Everything is a couple of minutes walk away. The main beach is closed this summer but it isn't a problem when there are so many great beaches nearby and swimming spots by the rocks!! Spotlessly clean, great little balcony for people watching. We'd love to come back... or move in. :)

The guy who sells fruit has brilliant real estate. But his friends yell something stupid every 10 minutes either at a woman or a car, it’s the same phrase—and if you’re trying to take a nap, well, you can’t.

We absolutely loved our stay. Amazing cute and cozy place, fantastic location a few steps to the beach and above all that, Enzo was absolutely lovely to deal with. Gave us recommendations of parking, events and tips about Monopoli. 10/10. Already cannot wait to rebook a stay in Monopoli and would definitely stay at Sottovento again. Thank you Enzo!
