The Blyde - Posh Living

Property was not properly prepared before. There was no electricity and it was not clean.

The owner was very friendly and assisted us every time I called her, what ever the time.

Everything was up to standard

The location is beautiful, I have been to The Blydes previously. However, at that time I had booked directly with the Mint Resort.

The condition of the property was completely unacceptable and fell far below the basic standards of cleanliness and hygiene expected of accommodation listed on Booking.com. Upon arrival, we found the premises to be filthy and infested with cockroaches, which poses a serious health and hygiene risk and is wholly unacceptable for family accommodation. The bed linen, including the sheets and duvet, was visibly stained. When we attempted to replace the soiled linen with clean sheets, we discovered that the mattress itself was also stained. The additional linen provided was still damp, strongly indicating that it had either not been properly cleaned or had been washed on the day of our arrival. The pillows stored in the linen cupboard were similarly stained, with some pillowcases torn. In addition, the curtains in the main bedroom were torn, while those in the lounge were visibly dirty. We immediately reported these issues to the host and provided photographic evidence. The host’s response was inadequate and dismissive, merely indicating that she would contact us on 1 January. Given the severity of the conditions, this response did not offer any immediate resolution or reassurance. As a result, my family and I were left with no alternative but to check out on the same night, as remaining in the property would have exposed us to unhygienic and unsafe conditions. This caused significant inconvenience and distress, particularly as the accommodation was intended for a family stay. In light of the above, we formally request a full refund. Furthermore, we strongly urge Booking.com to conduct regular inspections and enforce stricter quality controls on listed properties to protect guests from experiencing similar situations in the future.

The Blyde in itself is a great estate with the Lagoon that will keep you busy.

I have stayed at the Blyde many times in the past but was disappointed this time. This property was not clean, they were cockroach in the apartment from the moment we walked in, at night it's even worse. There were spider webs by the window in the other bathroom, the walls are not clean... The light in the dinning was not working, there are 2 light tubes in the kitchen but only one works... I have to say that for R3500 a night, it is not worth it. The host needs to maintain this place.
