Ice Cream Suite

A small and bijou apartment nicely furnished and decorated with everything we needed for a short stay. The initial walk from the station with cases was challenging but otherwise it wasn’t a problem. Its proximity to a couple of restaurants we wanted to visit was a bonus.

The step up into the shower in the back bedroom could be problematic for some.

The location and the space

Some deep cleaning, removal of mouldy silicone and a freshen up. Concerned about lack of working smoke detectors, big steps into showers so one of our party couldn’t use them and poor water pressure from the shower, which you probably can’t resolve as it depends on the electrical set up. Hot water out of taps was too hot and could scald. Also the lack of a TV aerial. But none of these things spoilt our stay and Ivy was lovely.

Basic amenities were complete, bed was comfortable

Cleanliness could be improved (floor was dirty), kitchen pots and pans were not clean, noisy at night with people arguing outside multiple times

Great location.

Only one towel per person for 3 days, no hand towels, shower experience was horrible, alternates between scalding hot and freezing cold every 10 seconds, locking the door from the inside and the outside was such a hassle. Also, the floors were not clean. I booked this place to save money because the hotels in ridiculously expensive in Edinburgh but this just wasn’t worth it. I usually don’t leave reviews but I had to this time.

This is a nice space for 4 people with two bedrooms, each with a king size bed. And the owner is quick to respond to questions and responsive from the start. I think she genuinely wanted to fix the problems, but there was not time on our 2 day stay.

There were no instructions for heat (it was freezing and took a bit to get working-- never really warmed the place) or one of the showers which didn't work. Instructions in the apartment would have been helpful. The water went from scalding to cold repeatedly. None of us could find the way to make it safe, even after the owner told us that it was sensitive and that we needed to let the cold water run out. This was a big bummer. Four people, one small working shower left, in cold Edinburgh. It simply needs to be fixed. It will still be a tiny shower, but warm water would be nice.

Great location, very clean, the kitchen facilities were excellent.

The shower was very bad - either very hot or very cold - and the bed was not a single mattress but was two twin beds in a single source sheet, which was not the most comfortable.
