Artful Lodging & Retreats

The place is very cozy and clean!! it has everything that you could possibly need, it was perfect for my husband, daughter and I!! It has a beautiful view and it’s pretty close to downtown Montpelier. We definitely would stay again!!!

Beth accommodated us for a 2.00pm check-in. Artful Lodging is in a good, quiet location with parking. There is a very good supply of toiletries and a well equipped kitchen, which we didn't use.

The facilities posted on Booking.com need a serious review. The seating in the apartment is old and uncomfortable with a clutter of other unnecessary furniture. The main bed, which is not extra long, is situated under a sloped roof, which made it a tight squeeze to get in on one side, and you had to be careful not to knock your head on the ceiling, which happened more than once. We planned dinner in and an early night. The TV remote didn't work, and we assumed the batteries were flat. After some time trying to get the TV to work, we got new batteries, which made no difference. Eventually, Beth told us, "There is no cable TV service as most people bring their own computer and stream their own programs. If you like, I can loan you my computer." This was rather an ordeal to set up. We were asked what we wanted to watch. We were told Fox News is a propaganda channel, and we don't watch it." We thought it inappropriate for a proprietor to be voicing their political bias with guests. We were told to be careful with the $4,000 computer, which Beth had perched on the kitchen bench with a cord strung across to the TV. In all our travels we have never had to bring our own computer to watch TV, nor would we. The bed was uncomfortable, and the bath towels are old. In the morning, we received a message with a list of instructions for check-out. Paying guests should not be asked to take out the rubbish or sort out washing. We would not return.

The hostess was very nice. The facilities were clean and well kept. The location was centrally located to all of the activities of Central Vermont.

I liked everything about the facility. The beds could be upgraded but still comfortable.

Beautiful character home, tastefully and interestingly decorated with the owners collected items. Had everything we could have needed and felt like being at home. Lots of beds if you are coming with a group (we were only two but the master bedroom was extremely comfy - huge bed!). Very friendly and responsive host. Good location, quiet neighbourhood area, walking distance to town centre. Wish we could have stayed longer!

We loved the little kitchen but if you are a big group it might be a bit small. Everything else was great!

I made a reservation for two people. However, 16 days before my arrival I informed the host that I would be bringing my husband, daughter and mother. There was indication of an issue. The host replied that she was looking forward to meeting me and my family. Upon arrival, the host asked for extra time to clean the apt and requested that we park on the street instead of in the driveway. The apt is not suitable for people with reduced mobility as there were loose handrails, and uneven steps. Upon entering, the host greeted us and provided advice and suggestions, although I was too tired to introduce her to my family. It is not something is usually do. The bedroom where my mother stayed was dusty, and there were cobwebs around the windows. The bed I slept in sunk. The floors were also creaky due to the age of the house and poor maintenance. The next day, the host messaged me expressing surprise and dissatisfaction at the presence of my family, especially my children. She mentioned I had caused inconvenience by not informing her about the ages of “my children” (referring to my 10 years old niece and 4 years old daughter) and that I had disrupted her schedule and creates potential noise issues for the guest below my apt. Feeling disrespected: as she referred to my mother as my friend in a condescending way; and unwelcomed, I decided to find alternative accommodation for my family and I. Overall I would not recommend this place.
