Sotavento Guest House

I hesitate to give such a perfect review as this will increase the demand for this magnificent apartment and increase the price for the next time I book. I can't stop myself though :) The location is fantastic being less than 100m from the crashing waves, less than 100m from an excellent supermarket and right in the heart of the quietish (late November) main town. The penthouse apartment has a stunning 30m+ long south facing balcony with outstanding views of both sea and mountains. The apartment was clean and contained everything we needed for cooking, sleeping and washing. Communication with the owner was by phone and he was always quick to pick up and really helpful. A top TOP beach - clean with excellent quality golden sand and the sea felt very safe to swim in. What a joy - no loungers and umbrella on the beach, no pedalos, no jet skis - maybe the odd yacht on the horizon but very little in the way of watersports. It is November now so maybe there are more activities in the summer months. I'm sat in a quiet beachside cafe looking down the length of the 5 mile beach and I can see no more than a dozen people in the sea and way less than 50 people on the beach - mostly walkers. If you are looking for a quiet winter break to decompress I can think of nowhere better.

I struggled to understand the coffee machine, failing twice to produce a cup of coffee - some instructions would have helped (or possibly a bit more common sense :)).

Everything! The location was perfect with easy access to the beach, restaurants and supermarket. Martim was so accommodating allowing us an early check in and late check out which made our ferry crossings so much easier. We'll definitely be booking again next year.

We absolutely loved our stay! The owner was very, very friendly and on the last day he let us do a late check-out which made our stay even better. The location is also perfect, close to the beach and many facilitiew. We will be back for sure!

Very big and bright apartment, the location is just perfect, close to the beach, restaurants, right next to the supermarket. Well equiped and nicely decorated.

Bad smell in the kitchen - there was a water under washing machine when we arrived and it was causing very bad smell in the apartment. The floors were very dirty, my socks were literally black. My bed was a bit folded and not that comfortable...
