Large Stylish Home with Spectacular Views Across City

I made a booking for 2 nights. The first night, there was loud pop music coming from the owners on floor above my room – even though the property’s own House Rules stipulated minimum noise after 10pm. Unable to sleep, I sent an email to the owners at 00:20 (twenty minutes past midnight), asking them to turn down the music. The following morning around 10 am, after attending a 08:30-9:30 business meeting in Christchurch, I returned to the property. A man (I assume this was Chris) was waiting for me at the front door of the house, with my suitcase and personal belongings which he had packed. He immediately became abusive: “Get the [expletive] out of my house. You’re a [expletive] old man” (etc., I spare you the rest). When I pointed out that I had made a booking – and paid – for two nights, he became physically violent. He violently kicked my suitcase (twice). My mobile phone, which I had left in the room and which he had put on top of my suitcase, went flying trough the air and crashed on the pavement. The rear lid came off, and the battery fell out about a meter further down. Then he slammed the door shut. The owner then “informed” booking.com that the booking had been “cancelled”, and thereby ensured I was unable to write a review. This problem was only rectified after I contacted booking.com. I have only ever written one other review, which was extremely positive (I rated the property – Whaka Heights – a solid “5” on all criteria). I hesitated to write this one. However, this was a shocking experience. Potential guests ought to be informed of what may be in store for them.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sherwood Lodge! It’s a beautiful place on the hill with nice view. Nikki and Christ was very friendly and helpful. Everything was very clean and fresh! We would absolutely recommend stayin here!

Set amongst a beautiful garden with a babbling brook in the background, this place is a delight to stay in. A well thought out guest house created by experienced travellers.

A really nice location, fabulous views, well set up for guests, very relaxing, quiet, easy to access property/room, comfortable bed, really good shower.

Perfect for getting ready for the wedding

The place was clean and tidy and the instructions comprehensive. Very pretty location.

We found the bed to be a bit uncomfortable and the bedding too hot with no obvious options available. Unfortunately an injury meant the stairs were a little awkward to navigate but this was fairly warned. Parking appears to be unsuitable for low riding vehicles, however ours was fine. A warning of the hill and tight parking space would be useful for those who might be driving a large SUV.
