Elegant Desert Camp

I had an absolutely unforgettable stay at Desert Camp, and I would happily give it a full 10/10! The location is fantastic — just a short drive from the Sossusvlei entrance, making early morning sunrise trips to the dunes super easy.  What I loved most was sleeping under the stars — having the option to relax outside on the veranda and enjoy the desert sky was a highlight of my trip. The bed was very comfortable, and the sunsets and vast views were simply breathtaking from the rooftop the bar up there was really nice the lady who works there is so so nice I had a great time talking with her sipping drinks. The cabins are clean and well‑equipped with what you need (I really loved the shower outside ), and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It was so peaceful waking up to the sounds of nature all around us. The restaurant is good I had a great diner but the breakfast it too basic.

If I had one small suggestion, it’s that Wi‑Fi is mainly available only at the reception and bar, so plan accordingly — but honestly, once you’re out in the desert with that view, you won’t mind unplugging! And keep in mind that You have to drive to the tent if you don’t stay at the lodge so bring water and snacks with you they give you a portable mini fridge for the tent with ice.

Die Lage der Zeltbungalows ist sensationell. Man hat vom Bett einen Wahnsinnsblick in die weite Halbwüste. Wir haben das Bett nachts rausgeschoben, ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Auch die Bar und der Pool haben eine sensationelle Lage oben am Fels. Und das Essen war top.

Das Haupthaus, also die Lodge, ist nicht so geschmackvoll und eindeutig auf große Touristengruppen ausgerichtet. Liegt unschön direkt an der Straße. Ich würde nur das Camp buchen. Das ist aber richtig toll.

No refrigerator or even cooler box in the tent. No cold water on arrival in 40°C ambient weather. The fact that the camp is located 6km from the main reception. The condition of both this road and the main C19 leading to the lodge. Owners should impress upon the State to maintain a proactive maintenance program on these roads to keep the tourists super keen to visit.

Das Essen könnte besser sein

Wir waren erst skeptisch, wie es uns wohl bei 42 Grad, ohne Klimaanlage, in dem Camp ergehen wird...dann dieses unfassbar einzigartige Erlebnis: wir schliefen die Nächte draussen unter dem Sternenhimmel, Nachts war die Temperatur sehr angenehm und einfach eine großartige Erfahrung, die man sich nicht entgehen lassen sollte !!! Und es gab zusätzlich eine Aussendusche auf der Terrasse, die wir gern und ausschließlich während unseres Aufenthaltes genutzt haben. Der Pool sorgte tagsüber für eine angenehme Erfrischung, ebenso die Bar oberhalb des Camps auf dem Hügel, wo immer ein angenehmer Wind spürbar war und kühle Getränke serviert wurden. Das Essen war einfach top und das Personal sehr freundlich. Der organisierte Ausflug in die Namib Wüste, einschliesslich "Big Daddy", Deadvlei, Sossusvlai und Sesriem Canyon ist ebenfalls sehr zu empfehlen. Wir waren froh, mal nicht selber fahren zu müssen und hatten einen sehr guten Fahrer der uns einiges über diese Region erzählen konnte. Vielen Dank für dieses außergewöhnliche Erlebnis.
