Watermill Farm Cottages

Loved it, such a warm welcome by Tanya and all the animals on the farm. The Manor house was lovely with such a beautiful courtyard area to have coffee in the morning and a lovely raised verandah overlooking the dam to watch the sunset. Very spacious with everything we needed and we especially appreciated the very comprehensive info guide on emergency services, wifi, snakes etc. We were really sorry we hadn't booked for longer, but it is a good reason to go back.

We appreciated the warm welcome by the hostess, her dogs and ducks.; the rustic setting of the cottage and the view from the back balcony. There was lots of bird activity and bird song all day. A shortish walk to the kloof behind the cottage is worthwhile. We did not get to the waterfall but by all accounts, is easily doable if you have the time.

The plumbing had a hic-up which is relatively simple to fix.

The location is beautiful. We enjoyed hiking up the mountain behind the farm, walking into the village and cycling the farm roads in the area. We loved the friendly dogs and cats paying us a regular visit and watching the poultry gather noisily for their evening feed!

This is such a nugget hidden away behind vanWyksdorp before the Rooiberg Pass in the Karoo. Quirky and with an interesting history, the cottages are delightful and fully equipped for self catering. Hilton and Tanya are warm and friendly hosts with Kaya ever-present on his favourite chair on the stoep watching proceedings with a baleful gaze. Waking to the geese in the early crisp autumn morning and encountering a huge kudu bull on the road nearby were bonuses.

Nothing significant comes to mind, perhaps an illuminated sign at the entrance for arrivals after dark.

Location was spectacular. Very peaceful. Staff could not have been more helpful. Only 3 miles from the centre of Van Wyksdorp (so either need a car or bicycle!). Lemon tree in the garden, so fresh lemonade! Fresh eggs available from the farm.
